Array Regional Youth Circuit events... The first Bay Area Regional Youth Circuit events are held over the November 16-17 weekend. If you (or your fencers) are interested in competing in this event, check the website: www.eskimo.com/~edew/ryc
for more information.
The circuit concept is still in its development stage, but will become the main way for youth fencers to compete prior to the singular national event at the Summer Nationals.
The Bay Area has a strong group of youth foilists, with practically all the top Y-12 boys foilists from the area. There are also a number of Y-12 sabre fencers from the Sacramento area who will also compete.
We expect a strong turn-out and if you (or your youth fencers) are ready for a good challenge, this event is the place to go.
Entry deadline is November 1, so submit entry forms as soon as possible! -

Array Boy, this is unusually modest. EDEW, the North CA division has the best Y10 and Y12 MF in the country. The best (by far) two Y12 male foil fencers (1, 2), three others in the top 8 (4,5,7), then (12, 15, and 20). I also know one more who probably would be in the top 20 by the end of the season. (Current USFA rankings Y12MF) -

Array Because many (local) fencers are mistakenly believing that there's no pre-registration, the entry deadline has been extended to November 8, 2002.
All fencers intereested in competing in the Bay Area Regional Youth Circuit, scheduled for November 16-17, should send in the entry form ASAP. Entry form can be downloaded: www.eskimo.com/~edew/ryc/DOCS/rycEntry.pdf
Thanks, and see you all there. -

(Current USFA rankings Y12MF) I am looking for fencing lessons for my four year old. I am in the Hudson Valley region of New York and don't pretend to know the first thing about fencing, except that he's really excited about taking lessons.Where can I find a reputable instructor, teacher, coach...I don't even know what to call them, and how much is fair for lessons for someone so small? Please help me learn more about your world. Greatfully BMom -

Array Mmmmm, this thread being ressurrected from the long-dead pile's going to cause some problems I'm guessing....
Check out http://www.usfencing.org once it's back in operation (late next week) for a listings of clubs near you. I'm not clear on what part of the Hudson constitutes "Hudson Valley." If in the capitol region check out http://www.hudsonberkshire.com (Hudson-Berkshire Division) for clubs. If in the Westchester area check out http://users.bestweb.net/~jjbpepc/index.html (Westchester-Rockland Division).
Hope that helps.

Array For what it's worth, four is AWFULLY young to start fencing. I'd suggest getting him into some other sport (or just semi-organized play) for another 3-4 years and then start with fencing if he's still interested.

Array He can play with foam wacky wackers http://www.triplette.com/Arms/04_TCAFunStuff.htm
I also agree with Brad. Do not start using fencing weapons before 7 or so, and the first class is SAFETY. -

Array For EDEW, I could be wrong here but I suspect that you must require kids to be able to sign up at the door for these events. Since they are a qualification path for nationals a kid could walk in, sign up for the USFA and fence. If you prevent them from doing this you could have problems down the road. I understand you wanting to encourage preregistration but you do need to allow for someone to show up, sign up and fence that day.
If you do have a late registration ability then that's fine but I hope your entry deadline date is not of the drop dead variety. -

Array Just as a note, EDew's posts on this thread are from nearly 2 years ago.
If you're looking for the Bay Area information for this season, this isn't the best thread. This is what I meant when I suggested the ressurection of this thread might cause problems.
Wacky wackers are a good suggestion.

Array Current Pacific Coast Region's RYC website is www.pacific-ryc.org
Go there for information. And yes, we do require pre-registration, just
like NACs. If someone wants to walk in and pay, it's triple the entry fee
like NACs. Similar Threads -
