Driving to NJ

Ok,

I am about to take off on the grand adventure of driving cross country to a job which I have little to no knowledge of, and without the spikes or snow chains (thanks, Doug). I have to say, I am still a little worried about driving cross country, but I suppose that it will all work out for the best. I still have to find a place to live out there, and qualifying for a loan is going to be problematic at best.

I'll be driving starting on Sunday, and hopefully reach NY state by Friday. In the meantime, I'll see if I can stop by any clubs enroute. I'd love to meet some of you.

Oh, man! I wish I would have seen this earlier! You could have detoured to the Detroit area and fenced with us, CR! And if you were pressed for a place, I have a guest room that goes unused. Well, keep that in mind for future trips! And don't forget to look up Chris Umbs when you're in Jersey.

Oh sooo happy it is to be here and settled!

Sorry it has taken me a while to write to all of you, but my trip from California has taken quite a journey.

Just to let you all know of my adventure,
I started from San Diego and had a great layover in Las Vegas. From there, I went through Utah and Colorado, where I saw snow for the first time in my life, when I thought it was so beautiful to watch flakes of snow flash across my windshield like fireflies. This is also where I spun out in snow for the first time in my life. Then froze in the snow for three hours waiting for a tow truck to arrive (somewhere in Vail) and pull me out of the snow. When I got to the hotel, I once again got stuck in snow 250 feet from the entrance. Now snow sucks.

I experienced, for the first time, the logic of the wind chill factor when my windshield washers froze over in Nebraska, and my car door that wouldn't close because the locks were frozen open.

I arrived happy and well in the great city of Chicago to visit relatives there. The Ohio turnpike was a blast because it feels like it was set up for cross country motorists, with it's toll system. Welcome to Ohio. Now leave.

I will say though that it is definitely an experience to remember, and never ever repeat again. I think that next time, I'll fly.

Highland Doug,
Thanks for the offer, I wish that I could have gotten your invitation before I took off. It would have been an honor to fence you, and meet some of the wonderful people I chat with on the net. But maybe on my next vacation to San Diego (Hopefully to coincide with the next NAC), I hope to meet you. And I will definitely look up Chris. I have been here almost a month, and haven't hit anyone yet. I miss that.

Piscataway? I really feel sorry for you. At least your near some very good clubs - Santelli, BG. In Monmouth County, it's practically dry. There's one club that started up (Atlantic Fencing) but I havn't had a chance to get over there yet. If you want to drive to PA, check out BCAF. Great place to fence!

Welcome to the Garden State. Don't tell anyone, but it's a really nice place to live.
