    Where are you located? That would give some of us an idea of who to aim you at.

    In the meantime, I highly recommend the armory manual Mergs' wrote that I sell
    Need fencing equipment? See me at H.O.M. Fencing Supply

    Going to your first tournament? Read "Choose yer weapon, Laddie (or: Dude, where's my foil?)"

    I second Purple Fencer's recommendation of Merg's "Care and Feeding of All Things Fencing" - it's probably the most comprehensive work currently available. However here are a few others reference works you might also consider:

    Rudi Volkman's "Electric Fencing Equipment: How to Repair It" - available through various vendors;

    Chris Green's "How to be an Armorer Without Loosing Your Sanity" - available through YeOldeArmor (you may have to page through the listings under tools a bit);

    Ted Li's "You Can Do It: Basic Armory" video - available through Absolute Fencing Supply;

    The ABC "Armoring Basics" DVD - available through Fencing.net (and others);

    The Armory section of Leon Paul's web site;

    The "Ask the Expert: Armory" section of Fencing.net

    Thanks for the plugs, guys. You can also get the hardcopy book from Craig at fencing.net, or Leon Paul USA and UK.

    As the two previous posters said, there are a number of resources out there. But nothing will take the place of nugging your way through a number of repairs (armed of course with a basic knowledge of how the stuff is supposed to work!).

    Standing by to help in any way.

    Just think, you can show him how to rethread a maraging blade!! (inventing swear terms while doing it optional!)

    But seriously (from ME?) at the OP, all the book learnin' in the world -- even from the cited sources -- is no substitute for hands-on screwing it up for figuring out the myriad of ways you can destroy a perfectly good repair job at the last minute...

    New English; no modifiers; drop random words from sentences, etc. And who said it was from an American college?

    As for actual training of a new armorer, use the following: plenty of newspaper, a choke collar and beer flavored treats

    "The Care and Feeding of All Things Fencing"is certainly the best book on the topic - well written, entertaining, and very informative.

    Have you read anything written by a college graduate lately?

    Do you mean a RECENTcollege graduate? Unfortunately, yes. It's sad.

    Many of the people in my classes can't write or speak English worth a damn. A good thing they're here for physics.

    Not to worry. Non-standard/alternative grammar/spelling (irregardless of the reason) is like chum in the water for a school of sharks. The main point is that you got a lot of good information on resources and what it takes to train to be on of our slightly dysfunctional guild. ;-)
