gother than thou
Array Rules Trivia I tried to necro the old thread, but apparently it was closed due to some shenanigans.
I witnessed one of the more interesting bouts with regards to the rules this past weekend. No fair answering if you were there
3 minutes of regular fencing time passed with the score tied at the end. Priority was flipped for and the winner announced. 1 minute of overtime passed with no touches scored. Then, an event occurred which resulted in ANOTHER 1 minute of fencing time being put on the clock, and the bout resumed.
So my question is... what was that event? Thru the darkness of Future Past

Array The box was never rearmed after the last period, one minute was fenced w/ no scoring b/c no one could score, then another minute was fenced w/ the box armed? -

Array While a good answer... this particular event was better (...worse?)
At least more exotic. Thru the darkness of Future Past

Array The "America's Most Boring Sporting Events" TV crew had a malfunction and had to re-tape the last minute? -

Array After the overtime minute had expired at the end of the team bout, the referee realized that between the regulation time and the overtime, a different fencer from one of the teams had hooked up by mistake, so they went back to the beginning of the overtime minute with the right fencers this time, and did it again.
Ok, not very plausible. But you did say it was pretty exotic...

They remembered that regular time in a bout lasts for 4 minutes? -
Non-combativity?
Although I have not read the precise wording of that rule lately... -

Array I tried to work out a non-combativity answer and couldn't come up with one.

Someone re-set the box to foil instead of epee? -

Array One of the fencers Fleched so hard that he broke c, therefore moving backwards in time and prolonging the bout the extra minute. In Flanders fields the poppies grow - Between the crosses, row on row, - That mark our place, and in the sky, - The larks, still bravely singing, fly, - Scarce heard amid the guns below. ~John McCrae -
Or the fencers were accelerating too much relative to the clock and thus the director (who is much more knowledgeable of Einstein's theories than I am) felt that 3 minutes on the stationary clock were not representative of the time they had actually been fencing. -

Array [laziness alert] I haven't bothered to look up the current (or previous) incarnations of the rules on passivity/non-combativity[/laziness alert] but I thought if you were called for non-combativity in the extra minute then you went with whoever had priority.
I think it was because priority had been assigned but not recorded on the poule sheet / box so they had to re-assign it following an argument and fence the extra minute again. I caught this morning morning’s minion, king-
dom of daylight’s dauphin, dapple-dawn-drawn Falcon, in his riding
Of the rolling level underneath him steady air, and striding
High there, how he rung upon the rein of a wimpling wing
In his ecstasy! then off, off forth on swing,
As a skate’s heel sweeps smooth on a bow-bend: the hurl and gliding
Rebuffed the big wind. My heart in hiding
Stirred for a bird,—the achieve of; the mastery of the thing! -
