I've been fencing for just over a year and I have to tell you. It IS fun. Actually it seems addicting... But, that is beside the point. At first I thought it would be hard to see through the mask, but really it is not. Anywise how long it takes you to get good depends on YOU.
1- how determined are you.
2- how good you are naturally
3- how good you are at watching your opponents (this will be important in tournaments)
4- which weapon does you fences? Some weapons are harder (to some) because of right-of-way. Others will find epee harder because you have to defend your feet.

Also, It depends on these-
5- Your coaches
6- The people you practice against
7- what events you’re in (for example: Y10 is going to be easier than Div. 1)

Ok so the example wasn't the best but it is true.
Anyways, good luck!

BTW: sorry to all that the last post was 11-01-2002 but I just HAD to put in my two cents worth...
