absolute light sabre guard vs. standard sabre guard. they're the same price. what are the advantages and disadvantages of each? -

Array The standard is a Rolled Guard, which presumably will hold up to dents and hits on the edge better then a light weight flat edge, that's basically it. I've personally never liked a rolled guard, your mileage may vary. -

Array Lightsabers don't really have guards, I thought? Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?

I just ordered a new Absolute sabre i dont think it has the light weight guard, but i will compare it to my leon paul lightweight and let you know what the difference is. Array My absolute light weight guards all have a habit of bending near the pommel. Eventually it becomes rectangular instead of curved. -

I find this is true with all lightweight sabre guards. Basically they just get smashed down and the difference in weight isn't noticeable to me. Cortosis guards sound like a bad idea...if someone jostles your lightsaber and causes the guard to bump up against the blade, you've just shorted your own lightsaber out. -

Array I am not familiar with those particular guards, but I am not convinced that durability of rolled vs. plain edge is responsible for it.
All but one of my sabre guards have plain edges, and most are decades old and still giving good service. But years ago I recall buying a couple of cheap guards from...I think it was Blue Gauntlet, when they had just started doing business. They had the "tails" coated in black tool-grip dip, in the manner of the current rubber sleeves. They dented and bent and generally fell apart in short order. These too had plain edges, but were much less durable than the others I had and am still using. Was it the alloy? The thickness? I don't know... Use the Shift key, people! My husband and I both fence with Absolute light-weight bellguards, and like them a lot. We haven't had any problems with deforming, etc. I just put a Leon Paul "chamelion" lightweight blade on one of my sabers, and it's REALLY nice... I'm not suffering from insanity-I'm enjoying every minute of it! I'm an armorer. -
