Hello,
After years of research and seeing how expensive some of the fencing
scoring boxes on the market are, I had the idea of building a high quality
Fencing Box with the same characteristics, but beating all prices.
Listed below is my newly designed scoring box. I have attached a brochure
with all of its features. The price is $175 plus shipping with 10 days of
free trial testing. If you are not completely satisfied you can return it
within the 10 day period. The scoring box also comes with a power supply,
three month warranty, and is in accordance with the latest FIE rules. If
you have any questions, please do not hesitate in contacting me at: fencingScoringApparatus@gmail.com.
Best regards.

yep!,
any regular reel connector, the output fits the typical connector 15 mm-20 mm, it has been tested with bungee system in the club and forks fabulous!
thanks for the comment!
The web page states that it is programmable... How is this done? Is there a port on the outside, or is it something that has to be opened up?
Do you have a manual for this item? It would be nice to have a PDF of it on your web site...

hey erik,
yeah I was thinking in putting a manual in the web, thanks for the suggestion!
the functioning is pretty simple, one push button to select the weapon, a swith on/off for the audio and thats it,
finally just have to plug the power and the reels! and ready to fence!
about the programming thing, well the idea was to do the simplest fencing scoring box and therefore the cheapest so sadly there is not connector to reprogram the chip, it is neccesary to open it, however just one component have to be replaced,
if the rules change again for whatever reason I will probably post how to change the chip and also I will probably offer free upgrades of the chip, kind of similar to some fencing companies that did the same when the timing rules changed in 2005,
some people are regreting the lack of a score board in the box...
wht do you think?

I think that what you have is great for the price, and that the addition of counters, reset switches and timing chips (for a built in clock) would simply add to the time and paterials, and thus the price.
Perhaps you can make a 2nd unit that would include extra bells and whistles, (like extension light hookups...) but if you do, I suspect that you would be very quickly looking at a $300.00+ unit, and would no longer be competitive with other similar devices.
I like what you have made. It has a nice classic look to it and makes me feel all 'warm and fuzzy" with memories of our old club box.

I took a look at your videos and I have to say that the box is MUCH smaller than I had originally thought. Since it is so small, I think that I would like to see the lights seperated a bit more in the next version, perhaps located on completely oposit sides of the device, even vertically mounted instead of horizontally.
Is there an option to change the tone of the buzzer? Always a nice touch so that if there are multiple boxes in the area the referee doesn't get confused as to which machine just went off.

You might also consider using a slightly larger box (I'm guessing that it's built around a 7x5x3 project box so it probably wouldn't be too difficult to move up to an 8x6x3 box).
One other advantage of a slightly larger case would be that it might make it possible to put batteries inside the case. One of the more convenient things about the old LP club boxes (at least for small clubs where everything has to be set up and taken down every night) is their ability to run off two 6-volt lantern batteries. This makes the LP machines rather bulky but this machine uses LED's rather than incandescent bulbs so it could probably run for quite a while on eight C cells.

Definitely a nice feature, and one which probably wouldn't add much cost (even just having two settings available can make a big difference).
after reading the comments in the forum I came out with a new version v7 of the EO fencing scoring box http://sites.google.com/site/newfencingscoringbox/
pretty similar to the last one but with new features:
-box size: 8x 6x 3 (bigger than the v6.1) with more distance between the lights
-metal strip compatibility
And I also consider the possiblity to select what tone of the buzzer you want to have installed in the box, there is a set of them available, it anyone interested just contact for more information: fencingScoringApparatus@gmail.com
As it is right now it doesnt have autosilence, it could be maybe a new feature for future versions, but what it has is an audio switch therefore you only have to position the switch on off and it wont sound when you disconnect.
About selling the boards alone, we can work out something, the thing is that the board is "electrically" adapted to the components that are being used right now, in other words, if I sell you the board not whatever light would work, or buzzer, etc, etc
In addition, you would need support/help in order to connect all the installed box components to the board itself.
However I am always up for DIY projects and I could help you on that,
what kind of custom enclosure are thinking about?
I've always wanted to fit modern electronics into the shell of some old, long-since obsolete machine, then set it up and watch everyone freak out when they see an "old" Leon Paul bug-eyed monster sitting on the strip (or even better yet, a Kessinger)
Of course this would only work at a Veterans' event - no one much younger than forty would even recognize some of the machines I'm thinking of.
