To my understanding, not within the US without a warrant, no. Also, IIRC, only the FBI had authority for internal monitoring. I believe now the NSA has that ability.
I'll have to look about and see if I can find that source, though...
The above notes the NSA conducts warrantless surveillance.
NSA is authorized by executive order to monitor phone calls, e-mails, Internet activity, text messaging, and other communication involving any party believed by the NSA to be outside the U.S., even if the other end of the communication lies within the U.S., without warrants.

Ha! That would have been rep-worthy if only you'd used your Shift key.
So close, yet so far...
Hey, I read that one of the laptop manufacturers is going to come out with a keyboard that removes the (almost completely useless) Caps Lock key. That ought to be worth a prize all by itself.

Remember when the SHIFT key actually shifted the typebars, and you'd have to press a second key to actually lock them there?
I think there are already a couple of laptops out there that no longer use a CAPS LOCK key. That makes perfect sense to me -- although I must say I still find "shift lock" occasionally useful on my handheld.

Bravo. If I had a nickle for every time I hit that stupid thing accidentally instead of the Shift or Tab keys...well...I'd have a lot of nickles.

Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you!
