Interesting looking at MF - in the finals all the bouts were between national teammates. Is that intentional??

Anyway, congrats Frank and go AUSTRALIA!

Go on Scotland!!

Top of the pile in the overall standings (for now anyway).

Val Cramb (one of mine) takes silver in Women's Epee and the sabre boys strut their stuff in teams. Val phoned me from the hotel bar. I think it's going to be a long night (especially now that the sabreurs are finished)!!

If you have trouble getting results to show: While generall excellent, the cf2002 can be a bit twitchy about putting up results. If you keep getting the 'This info not yet available' line, try hitting F5 or Alt-F5 and refresh the screen. That sometimes brings up up-to-date results. OTOH, they may just not be there yet...

GOLD for Boo Boo in WF Team!

Just came back from Aus. supporting my missus (boo boo).

Couldn't get enough time off work so only flew over for a couple of days. No photos yet as the films are still in Aus with the wife.

Don't post much on this board but just had to let everyone know that my "internet fencing geek" wife is coming home with a GOLD medal from the WF team event!

My impressions were that the Aussies tried very very hard to make it a big event and *almost* succeeding.

They had fenced off the 1st round pistes to create no go areas for non-fencers. Which was good, although the metal garden fences made ressemble a dog show.

For the DE fights they tried the blue/yellow/red/green quadrant thing from Sydney (Paris has it too), but with obviously cheap/old carpet. Fencers are put in a "staging area" (more like a sheep holding pen) until it's their turn, and they are paraded out to their coloured pistes.

It made for a great atmosphere with a lots of supports waving flags and cheering, but lots of delays as they wait for a whole set of fights to be completed before bringing on more people.

For the final they had a rasied piste, actually not a raised piste, more a flat piste on a 2 meter high stage, proper seating. They were going to have giant video screens, but got stuck in customs (the first supplier they used went bust!)

Chubby Hubby

"internet fencing geek".

Sorry about that.

Congrats to Boo Boo for the team gold, sorry my baby sister and her girls didn't manage a better performance and give the England team some stiffer opposition. Hope you had a good time in Australia. I've heard from Jo and Val and they certainly sound like they've enjoyed the trip. They reckoned the Australians have put on a really good event, certainly compared to previous Commonwealth Championships.

Cheers

Haggis

Am Back

Hi

Am back and shattered (well my plane did land at 5.40am this morning... :-( ).

The Commonwealths were the greatest fencing experience of my life: the team spirit, atmosphere, ceremony etc.etc. are better than any competition I have experienced before (although I have never been to a world championships).

Did reasonably well in the individual (good poule, great L32, although dire L16 - ref needed a guide dog to pick up parry repostes....) and a great team event (it was great to contribute towards winning the gold).

Was a bit surprised that Scotland didn't beat Wales in their semi-final WF, but Wales gel together so well as a team. Scotland's performance could not have been affected by my attempts to put a hole in Kirsten's head the day before (honest!).

Had a great day wine tasting with Haggis' little sister (the day after the team event) - although I didn't realise that she was your little sister (doh!)! Hope you enjoy your present (if it gets back to you ;-)) - tried to persuade Jo to buy you a bottle of "Chilli Schnapps" instead...

Got to socialise with a lot more epeeists and sabreurs than normal and thoroughly enjoyed their company.

Boo
(suffering from an 11 hour time difference and a drop in temperature of 30'C....)
