Array edew edew, could you tell me a bit about your fencing career? I was very impressed by your fencing at LBI. I thought that you should have one the bout against Chang. Who knows what would have happened if you did? Who did you study under? How long did it take you to get your A? How did you get your A? What were the things that you struggled with though out your fencing career?
About myself.... I'm an unrated and self taught fencer. I have been fenicing for almost a year. I am unothodoxed and I refuse to take any kind of lessons (private or group, though I am very open to advice from anyone.). I read a lot of books about fencing and I do a lot of open bouting. But I WANT to do it by myself.
I ask you these questions not because you are one of the top fencers on this board in the California area. I truly admire your fencing style and spirit. -

Array Ask him about the last touch to renew his A at 98 PCCs!
It was loud AND ugly! -

Array It was the '99 PCCs.
I've not seen, but I have heard of self-taught fencers (from books). Personally, seeing how fencing techniques change so quickly, anything read in a book is outdated.
Go get coaching from some respectable coach and it'll be much more satisfying. A coach provides (or should provide) more than just lessons and technique. He or she should be there to support you, commiserate with you, cheer you on, let you be, or whip your a55 into high-gear when needed. -

'Course, I'm STILL younger than "The Benge", but than again, everyone IS! -
Quit (no longer with us)
Array let me creek back onto the board for just a second young whip-o-snapper......the book thing. i understand what you're saying edew, but, we need reference texts for understanding the rules and regulations. my beef right now, is that studying fencing comes from a lot of sources, this board, books, coaches and other fencers during practice. that's why, when i post, i try to be truthful with information, but i am open to corrections, because i'm underrated. -
Quit (no longer with us)
Array p.s. tomorrow i take off for my trip. then two days back and i'm gone. i hope i get another opportunity to fence the cardinals, but i doubt it, as i'll be in the southern division in two months.
I'm right in your camp, always sending the cardinals the best. SO, my big question is, are you all planning for international competitions and, without going into detail, how would you say your international competitions will go? Aren't most international competitions during the summer? What's the scoop.
