Array I vote for the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo. They now have an expo center of 20K sqft (not too big, but can handle Sr Ind/Teams). It's convenient for almost all fencers in the section. -

I've only been there once, but I believe the floors were concrete, though. I could be wrong.
The primary issue with hosting a big event in SLO, though, is the costs of flying referees in to a smaller-sized airport. Not sure how cost-efficient that would be. -

Array Almost all referees from SoCal and NoCal area can drive to SLO. If you're talking about refs from other sections, well, arrange to fly down to LA or SF and someone can pick them up for the 3 hour trip. -

Cal polly SLO has a big enough gym, but SLO isn't exactly convenient to anyone. The deal breaker is the ref costs, we typically need 8-10 out of area refs if you fly them into LAX or SFO there is extra cost for car rental and an extra room nights. Go to the well until the well is dry. When the well is dry find a new well. -

Array Look, I have no clue what they charge for the expo center. But it'll be cool to stay in any one of their unique rooms. And the steaks there are pretty good too. -

But yeah....the location would make it WAY too expensive.
Now UC Santa Barbara....if you could get both gyms and the hockey rink....that might work (putting aside, for the moment, the hellish logistics of coordinating events between those three venues)...and it's a lot closer to bigger airports...still a bit of a drive, tho. -
If you push back the bleachers you get another 25%, move BC Armory reg to the entry room 20 strips. The primary problem with most school venues is getting them for a friday saturday sunday. UCSB is cal polly SLO just closer to LA. Go to the well until the well is dry. When the well is dry find a new well. -
The gyms are not the only venues at UCSB.
There's also the Events Center, aka the Thunderdome: http://eventscenter.ucsb.edu/plan_an...lan_floor.html -

Array Ah the E-Cen. My first ever home-game fencing bout (against CSUF) was there. Go Gauchos!
Please don't compare UCSB to CP-SLO. They're, uh, 90 miles apart! Seriously, SLO are the Mustangs. SB ride the 'stangs.
UCSB has been and will always be the center for top fencing in the tri-county area of south-central coastal California. It has developed far more fencing Olympians than any other city in a 2000 mile radius (as long as you sweep that radius out westeward and perhaps slightly south to southwest and not too northerly). -

Array My first ever competition was an away meet against CSUF (and Northridge, I think). My first bout was the fastest 10 seconds of my life. I stood there to get hit five times. Ready, fence, beep. One-zero. Ready, fence, beep. Two-zero.... Similar Threads -
