New Classical and Historical fencing class in Blairstown, NJ

The Umbs School of Arms is proud to announce the formation of its first class in classical and historical fencing. Could I just show up to a historical fencing competition, with a sabre, and fence?

Congratulations, Chris! I'll have to see if I can come in next time I'm in your area.

In any case, good luck with your new school...

I've been saying that foil isn't a weapon for YEARS.

Way cool, Chris! Congrats to you on the classes and all that goes with it. Is Jana going to be helping you, as well? And what about Maestro Martinez? Do you still study with him?

BTW, I worked alongside Randy Wallace of the Duelists this summer at the Michigan Renaissance Fesitval. He was quite surprised I knew who Maestro Martinez was, and even more surprised that I went to NJ for a seminar. I guess Randy is REALLY a big fan of CF/HF, and that's why he was in contact with Maestro.

For those who might be wondering, the Duelists are an entertainment act usually booked at Ren Faires, and recently featured on the cover of the Museum Replicas catalogue. It was the cover with two gents back to back, with the guy on the left (Dave) holding his right handed weapon in his left hand, and both pointing their weapons at the camera. They were working at the Grand Opening of the new Museum Replicas place, and ended up on the cover.

KShan5,
Absolutely. The CF sabre rules are at
http://www.ahfi.org/sabre2001/sabre_rules.htm

Sildar, thanks. I hope to get out to Livermore next year as well.

Doug, Jana will be helping me even though she's mostly a sabre/sidesword/longsword kind of thug. I'm still studying with M. Martinez though mostly with private lessons getting my epee skills back up to snuff. I'm also working on a fairly regular basis with M. Loriega for Navaja (Spanish folding knife).

Well... I'm off to the AHF 19th c. American Martial Arts seminar (dueling sword and sabre, military sabre, knives (navaja, bowie, Arkansas toothpick), tomahawk, cane fighting and wrasslin'). Be back on Monday.

Chris

Good for you, Chris. CF/HF isn't my thing at all but anyone encouraging fencing is doing a good job. Hope it goes well.

Regards

Haggis
