| Age Restricted Classifications Hey Guys/Gals/Pointy Weapon Enthusiasts:
I know we had discussions earlier about the new classification changes, but after the Orlando NAC, I'm still confused. (OK, so it's a perpetual condition, no wags need point that out)
To wit: in the cadet women's saber competition, the official results show it as a D1 competition, even though there were 3 As, and a whole bunch of Bs & Cs taking part. 2 As and 5Bs made the finals.
(The As and Bs, by the way, appear to have been largely earned at the Div2, and Div1A level, so these ladies had to fence with the big folks to earn their ratings)
Now according to my reading of the chart, that makes it an A2 competition. Ahh...but it's an age restricted event, you say.
According to the classification chart header:
"NOTE: Age-restricted competitions may be rated if they meet the criteria below. This is a new policy effective August 1, 2002."
That's one source of info. Another conundrum is that both the men's cadet foil and epee competitions WERE listed as A2 events, so it can't be an age thing.
I'd hate to intimate that there was a sexist bias going on here...surely there's a more logical explanation. So, do edify me.
My fevered brow doth need surcease.
Thanks for your input!
