Array USFCA Moniteur Testing November 22, 2009 in San Antonio Andrei Samorodov and I are giving the USFCA Moniteur practical exams to five candidates at the Alamo Fencing Academy on Sunday, November 22, 2009 in San Antonio.
If you are interested in taking the exam please contact me here or by PM.
You must pass the online test at USFCA.org before you can take the practical exam. -
Would you mind describing what the practical portion of the test is like. Maybe describe what the test might be like and what you are looking for from a candidate? -

Array The test also depends on the proctors. My Moniteur exam consisted of private lessons in all 3 weapons. "Sir, didn't I parry"
"You didn't take advantage of his blade enough, so no."
(I guess i should have romanced it a bit more..." -

Array Your Moniteur exam should have consisted of a practical AND written test.
Not so? -

Array I was only referring to the practical portion. I took the written online as expected, but the practical was (to my surprise) a private lesson. I think that is the extreme minority, as the website clearly says its a group class for Monitor.

Array The website clearly says a group lesson, but all of the Moniteurs I know (including several created in the last year or so) were tested using private lessons. My own Moniteur test was done using a private lesson in the three weapons I tested in, but my Moniteur was some time ago. -

Array We will be following the Moniteur examination protocol exactly as it is posted on the USFCA.org website. The practical exam will be a group lesson.
All of our Moniteur exams at the Alamo Fencing Academy over the last couple years have used the group lesson format.
This special exam session was requested by 5 coaches from our neighbor club in Houston the Alliance Fencing Academy. http://www.alliance-fencing-academy.com/
They are all very experienced epee coaches so if you would like to come out and observe some very good epee warm-up, footwork, and group lessons, you are welcome.
Fee for attendance is $50 and is payable at the door to Alamo Fencing Academy. Exam fees are paid separately to the USFCA at www.usfca.org -
