The United States Fencing Association announces the delegation to compete at
the Pan American Junior Cadet Championships in Santiago, Chile, October
21-26.
The Pan American Junior and Cadet Championships are held every year by the
Confederacion Panamericana de Esgrima, or Pan American Fencing
Confederation. The Confederation was established in 1955 with the purpose of
serving as a link among nations throughout the hemisphere. Twenty-six
nations belong to the Confederation.
At last year's Pan American Junior/Cadet Championships, in Santa Cruz,
Bolivia, U.S. fencer Bill Verigan won the gold medals in both the Cadet
(Under-17) and the Junior (Under-20) Men's Epee competitions. This was the
second straight year that a U.S. fencer accomplished that feat; Michael
Banks won both men's epee titles in 2000.
