Nothing in this thread had suggested writing on the mask, much less the lexan, until your post. We GET that you don't like them, think they are inherently unsafe, and wish the FIE had never approved them. Not every lexan mask thread needs to be steered in that direction.

-B | Thread title: "taking care of the lexan masks"
Advising against something that could damage the lexan certainly applied here.
Certainly common sense would tell you that putting a mark in an area that could easily be in your line of sight is a bad idea.....but common sense also tells you to make sure the screws are tight on the frame that holds the plate.....and yet MANY times when I get a lexan across my table during control, I find a high percentage of the screws are loose....EASILY a greater safety risk than marking the lexan with a marker in the short term.
Safety is an armorer's first responsibility...advising against ink marks on the lexan is part of that. |

-B | Well, if you leave the LP mask bag on while you are fencing, you are unlikely to get any scratches but you will become very frustrated at how hard it is to score touches.
But I don't think B. meant to leave it on absolutely all the time, just all the time you are not wearing it.

| Heh. Are you sure you know Brad?
I think next time I have him as a referee, I will hook up for my first bout with my LP bag over my head. ( Winning eternal thanks from women everywhere, no doubt. )
