Anybody ever used a shin guard for epee? I got hit hard in the shin during epee practice. I was not wearing fencing socks, just knee length basketball socks. I've got a pretty big wound.
I have a pair of fencing socks and they would have protected better (they were dirty) but if I was wearing them, I would still have gotten injured, just not as bad.
Has anyone ever seen a shin guard used for epee? Pearce

Has anyone ever seen a shin guard used for epee? Never seen it, but I seem to remember seeing someone mention it possibly in a sock thread. As long as the shin-guard was uniformly convex and didn't present a risk of catching the point (like from holes or indentations), I can't see why it would be a problem. Most soccer shin-guards are light weight and cover some to most of the shin starting a bit above the ankle and ending a bit below the knee (or the other way around), so it doesn't seem like they'd be an obstacle to motion at all. Array I've seen a couple of people wear shin guards, always under the sock. -

Array Yes I imagine that they have been used. However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally take a look at the results. ~ Churchill

Array There was a fencer in DC that used to wear a shin guard on his front shin under the sock, and one on the bicep area of his weapon arm (under the jacket, of course) -

Array I have seen people wear a knee pad like you might see in vollyball. Scott wears one on his chair because he hits the side of the chair a lot Score 3 strokes, 4 seizures and 2 brain surgeries
I've had brain surgery, what's your excuse? -

Array I've seen it a couple of times. Do it if you want to. One of the guys I know wears one for a good reason. Expect some stares though... -
Several modern pentathletes wear a shinpad, but always under the sock. Similar Threads -
