    tournaments?

Okay. I am relatively new to fencing. I have yet to compete in a tournament and have been in a fencing club at my school for about 3 weeks now. Here is my problem. The only fencing club near me is at my school and you have to be a student to be in the club. I have become very dedicated to fencing and love it. I always wanted to do this but couldnt because there was no where to learn.

I will be graduateing in about a year to a year and a half. My problem is once i graduate i will not beable to be Part of the club. I have seen old students come into to practices and they dont have a problem with it so i could still learn more but how would i go about registering for tournament and such without a coach or club. Is it even possible to register as an individual. This may be a dumb question but again i am relatively new

Welcome to the wonderful world of askFred. You can search for tournaments in any area you want.

You don't need to have a coach or be affiliated with any club to compete in a USFA sanctioned tournament (if that's your question). You just need to be USFA member. In many/most cases you can register at the door (or use AskFred to pre-register as was sugested above)

Thanks so much! i really appreciate the information. I am definately glad to hear that you dont have to be affiliated with a club or have a coach to compete! I was just nervous that when i graduate i wouldnt be able to without making the hour to 2 hour drive to the nearest club to be a member, when i can go to my school and practice with them like i have seen many old students do! Again thanks for all the info and i look forward to entering the exciting world of competitive fencing!

Also does it cost anything to become a USFA member. If so what does it cost?

Tournaments are usually held at clubs. In order to compete in a tournament, you will probably have to drive a couple hours to said club.

How have you checked to see where the closest club is? Sometimes there's one closer than you think.
