Fencing world championships to be aired live on nbc universal sports!

Alright, this is massive and important for our sport! The world championships will be airing live from oct. 3-8 at 10:30am EST on NBC universal Sports.

    http://timmorehouse.wordpress.com/20...versal-sports/

    Ideas to promote:
    1) I have a banner on this blog link...make it your FB Banner (As i've done!)
    2) Email your friends!
    3) The email on my blog was supossed to go out to all USFA clubs, did you get it?
    4) Clubs: post the banner or press release (is there a press release?) on the world championships being airing
    5) Email/twitter/tell your friends!

What else? It's important we get good ratings. This can be an important first step in fencing being on TV on a more regular basis.

How about if it was actually broadcast on cable or satelite channels that normal people get and can afford? I know that it would cost me approx an extra $70 per month to be able to watch it (in order to get that cable package). If you are going to put it on TV to get the exposure/publicity, air it where the common man can see it, not just a select few that can get that channel can see it.

I did read that, and I probably will watch, but what I'm saying is that to get the max exposure, air it where everyone can see it. Showing it on USN is an awesome start, but is there a chance that one of day we could get aired on normal TV?

I think there will be a day when "normal" TV no longer exists. I think that will come sooner than when fencing will be shown on "normal" TV.

I'm not being apocalyptic, just indicating that the direction of TV and internet and streaming and other convergence of technology is making the traditional TV go the way of the do-do. I think in 5 - 10 years, in the US, there will be no more "airwave" television. All video content will be streamed to the house. Better for fee tracking as well as more opportunities for the consumer to pick and choose the programming. This 5 - 10 years will be after such things happen in Europe and other countries, I'm guessing.

Baby steps, officer. I'm not about to start complaining that we're not getting network coverage.

Are you sure you've never read Infinite Jest?

David Foster Wallace predicted this back in about 1996--also predicting it would lead to the death of traditional advertising.

The power of the ad lobby is probably the only thing keeping the status quo intact at the moment.

Yea, I know. Patience has never been a virtue of mine...probably why I don't fence epee...and probably why I'm climbing the walls to get cleared to do something other than sit on my @$$ from my surgery.

This was mentioned before, I think, but it is free over the air and basic on cable. For New York City
    Time Warner 162
    Comcast 249
    Cablevision 110
    RCN 190 / 29
    Verizon Fios 464
    NBC over-the-air 4.4

Check out this link to find channels for Universal Sports in different places.

Yea, I had already checked the schedules and the networks. It's only being aired on the "Gotta pay extra for these channels" package from my cable company - nothing over the air. Guess I'll hafta watch online.

Is this live coverage going to be on TV Universal Sports? The information says:

To watch the Live coverage, simply go to www.universalsports.com and click on the LIVE NOW link for that day, at the top of the webpage. To watch all archived events, please refer to: http://www.universalsports.com/club/...3000&KEY=&SPID

Doesn't this sound like it's Live with video streaming on the internet, on website of Universal Sports?
