| Fencing Socks - Vendor Advice I purchased a pair of fencing socks for my son approx. two years ago and need to replace them. I don't know who made them or where we got them (locally, NAC, SYC, nationals --who knows) but if I can still get the same kind, I'd like to pick up a few pairs. They are a heavier ribbed, cotton and have "FENCING" written in black horizontally on the side of each leg (one inch block letters). If this description sounds familiar, we'd really appreciate knowing who made them and if they are still available. We purchased several other brands this past summer at nationals and none of them have stood up to this pair. The other brands we bought have holes in them (from leg touches) and have thinned out in the heals. It is frustrating when you spend so much on them and they don't hold up. If we can't replace these, I'll need some advice on thick, sturdy men's socks that are well made, fairly long (my son is 6' 4"), cushioned in the feet (on the leg might be nice but not mandatory), accommodate a size 13 foot and wash well (I hang dry). I'll need to buy some replacements at the upcoming NAC. |

| I just bought a couple nice pairs of synthetic soccer socks from Big 5 sporting goods. Adidas brand, $15 for two pairs, and as nice as any other fencing socks I've had. I also like Absolute's socks. Also synthetic and stay up well. Both types are thick enough to have some padding, about twice what the really nice Adidas soccer socks I used to wear have. I wear a large in all three models and have a size 13 foot.

| I second Adidas soccer socks. Mine have outlasted and outperformed every fencing-specific sock I have tried. |

| Sorry I cannot help with the fencing socks you asked about - I know just which ones you mean but don't know who sells them. I will add that soccer or baseball socks are a good option, and readily available. I have worn Adidas and Nike, and really like the Nike Dry-Fit sock. If your son wants extra padding in the foot have him wear a pair of short socks.

| Adidas soccer socks is pretty much what my entire club uses. Well, there is the one kid who is a soccer fan and uses puma soccer socks for some reason I don't understand... Anyway they hold up better, and protect better, than any so called "fencing" sock that I have found.

| Big fan of Rick's fencing socks. They had held up better and feel more comfortable than any socks I've ever fenced in. Nice wicking, good support, well-padded in those areas of the foot that blister up easily. Also, they're not as skinny as some out there, so they don't cut off circulation on those of us with meatier calves. Come in two lengths - standard and freakishly-tall. And they stay up, by gawd. http://www.escrimeusa.com/catalog/pr...roducts_id=301
Which reminds me, I need some new ones. |

Socks. The "generic" ones are about the usual fencing sock quality, but some of high-quality branded ones (UA, Adidas, Nike) are a huge improvement over anything available from fencing-specific vendors. |

| There is no design on the back of the leg, only the word fencing, as described. |

balestra has some of their own, as does Athos that say "Fencing" on them.
I've personally rarely had to refer to my socks to remember what I was doing while wearing them, so Adidas soccer socks have been fine for my personal fencing needs.
edit: On a side note, I wonder if I wore socks that said "Sabre" or "Foil" while fencing epee if my opponent might forget what they were doing and start trying to get RoW or something.
