Years ago when Bruce was on tour in the US he showed up at a fencing tournament in Victorville, California. He fenced foil, he did OK and a group of us went out to dinner with him afterward. A couple months later we ran into him again in Chicago where he popped into our Nationals while he was in town, (still on tour). A few of us did the dinner thing again. He seemed to be a very nice Rocker.

US Fencing Association VICTORVILLE???? What was he doing there?? -

The funny thing about the experience, the organizer of the event let it slip in the local paper that he was going to be at this tournament and the gym filled with a lot of his fans. During one of the breaks he went over, signed autographs, and had pictures taken, he was just a nice guy about the whole thing.

US Fencing Association Ah man....I wish I'd seen this post yesterday...Kent Crosby (the organizer of whom you speak....coach at Victor Valley HS, which puts on Haake und Slashe) was down here for or first HS tourney and I could've gotten the story from him! -

Kent Crosby is the one to confirm the story. Again it was a fun tournament and it was fun to met and spend a little time with him there.

Array I fenced with Bruce back in Canada in about 1996ish. He is strong, technical fencer. And fast. Likes to parry 6, then counter 6 and another counter 6. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WON'T YOU BUY MY TACTICAL WHEEL!!!???? -

Array I fenced him foil a number of times about five years ago. If I hadn't known that he was the lead singer of Iron Maiden I would never have guessed - he was exactly the opposite of the stereotype of a heavy metal rock star. (well spoken, neatly dressed, friendly, polite, had a youg son with him).
He was an OK fencer at the time I fenced him but I don't think he had been competing for quite some time. I caught this morning morning’s minion, king-
dom of daylight’s dauphin, dapple-dawn-drawn Falcon, in his riding
Of the rolling level underneath him steady air, and striding
High there, how he rung upon the rein of a wimpling wing
In his ecstasy! then off, off forth on swing,
As a skate’s heel sweeps smooth on a bow-bend: the hurl and gliding
Rebuffed the big wind. My heart in hiding
Stirred for a bird,—the achieve of; the mastery of the thing! -
I need to fence him.
I'd just be like "Hey, so what kind of music do you like?" -

Note: I got into music late, and am totally a product of the iPod era. I own 2 CDs, but I have 8 days of music on my iPod... "Sir, didn't I parry"
"You didn't take advantage of his blade enough, so no."
