New to Tournaments Hi, I'm relatively new to fencing; I've been going for about a year, but haven't done any tournaments yet. I'm about to sign up for the Bankuti Challenge, in Cocoa, Florida. As I've never been to a tournament, much less fenced in one; are there any things I need to know for it? I'm a saber Fencer, and my name's Logan Hester for anyone who is going. I'm only 16, but I'm assuming I need to sign up for Senior mixed Sabre, as it's the only option?
Don't want to make any dumb mistakes there, and thanks for the advice! -

Craig, who owns Fencing.net, also has a beginner's guide. There's a thread about it elsewhere. I am too lazy to go track down anything I don't alrerady have bookmarked, but it's there somewhere. Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! -
Cool, thanks! I'll check those out. I don't wanna look completely stupid at the tournament, haha -

Array As it's your first tournament, just accept you will look completely stupid. If you don't let that get to you, you might just learn something for next time! -

Array Don't be afraid to ask for help from the fencers who look like they know what they're doing. Find some average, smiling, relaxed fencers and ask them, or a parent who's hanging around.
I say an average fencer 'cause you wouldn't want to disturb the "good ones" that are in the zone. I've made that mistake. Once.
And remember- even if you don't win a bout, make as many points as you can! It affects your indicator, which affects your placement within the Direct Elimination (DE) round.
Good luck and have fun!

Array If you have the opportunity, go watch a tourney before the one you are in. If not, then don't, but the above mentioned guides are good either way.
You want to be relaxed and have fun. And, as mentioned, just try to get all the touches you can. Fence one touch at a time, not one bout at a time.
And Good Luck! -
Awww, man! I tried pre-registering, and it says (on askFRED) that the senior mixed sabre has no more spaces. Does that mean I can't fence in the tournament? Or is there another way to sign up... -

Sometimes when the number of spaces is limited they'll start a waiting list in case someone who is already registered withdraws. -
