Yury Gelman's daughter Julia asked me to get the word out. My Coach and friend Yury is in need of blood. If you're in the NYC area and can donate that woudl be greatly appreciated. -Tim

at the USFA Board meeting today I was told you could donate to Yury, regardless of location. I think I could easily get 5 people to donate if anyone has any information on how to go about this.

Just back from donating at Sloan Kettering - couldn't be easier - appointment kept at time made, whole blood took exactly one hour from walking in to walking out, staff lovely. Hope many of NYC fencing community can come out!

You might want to check with Joe Licata at the Blood Donor program at Sloan Kettering: Joe Licata @ 212-639-8177.

When i called today, he said the blood had to be donated at the Hospital in NYC. No other way to designate it for Yury.

I'm a long-time platelet donor through Northern California's BloodSource, and figuring that a direct blood-center-to-blood-center inquiry might be more informed, I asked them to check whether my local donation could be credited to Yury. They contacted the NY blood center and confirmed that they do NOT accept donation credits from other blood centers--donations for Yury definitely have to be made at Sloan-Kettering.
