Anyway with all the discussion about how good American Fencer magazine is I thought perhaps we could suggest some real reality stories about fencers that could be carried. A lady friend told me about one in a recent New Yorker (I think) Leonardus "Leo" Nardus, Olympic Bronze Medalist 1912. Interesting story. Dutch Bronze medalist in men's team epee 1912 Olympics supported himself and his sports (think he was also a chess fan) by forging the art of old masters. Charged with collaborating with the Nazis in WWII by selling them art, he is supposed to have dodged the charge by pointing out that the works he was selling them were forgeries. But he made his great fortune in the states where it was said "he charged more for fakes in America than he could have gotten for genuine masterpieces in Europe."

Well, Ok, I guess you had to be there. But I thought it somewhat more elegant and at least as interesting as Cole and the boys describing how they used to roll drunks in Mission to make their floor fees in the 60's. Well I thought they said 60's maybe it was last year for all I know.
