Array I should know this - dumb question Is a World Cup event (like Warsaw, Montreal) an FIE event requiring the lame bib and visor?
Crap the LP exchange with an epee bib runs the cost up to almost $500. I'll have the gear, but can't afford to go.
Thanks for answering a rookie question. Score 3 strokes, 4 seizures and 2 brain surgeries

Array The real question is whether or not the chair World Cups require the new target.
I forwarded the question to one of the US paralympic referees a week or so ago. He didn't have an answer but said he'd try to find out and get back to me if he heard anything. My plan is to let you know if/when I hear anything from him.
Meanwhile talking to Les Stawicki, as the wheelchair national coach, and/or Mike Pederson, as the High Performance Director, would both be reasonable approaches for you. Or contacting the Polish/Canadian organizers if you have a means to do so.

Array if you dont know your probably not qualified to participate anyway and its not like you would have to know anyway because your sponsors would just give you all the free stuff you needed. Bury socialist healthcare with Ted Kennedy.

If you read more and typed less, you would, like most of the regulars here, know that the wheelchair fencing community is small, and thus the number of years/experience to chair world cup events is smaller than the number of years/experience to standing world cup events. You would know that Graybeard is active in the chair community. You would know that people can and do go to world cups who don't have sponsors giving them free or subsidized gear, especially those in chair events.
But you don't know any of those things, so you have added NOTHING to this thread. I can't really either, other than to explain in small words the things you haven't bothered to pay attention to. Oiuyt has given just about the best answer available, unless any of the people he mentioned were to drop by, or if someone else had recently talked to one of those people. -

Instead of wasting your money on a visor mask, I suggest you look into getting one with extra padding. You've obviously taken too many blows to the head. How many US fencers do you think are sponsored? Do you think any wheelchair fencers are? -

Array Yow! I didn't want to start anything. I wasn't expecting the Spanish Inquisition, I came in here for an argument, (he said mixing two bits) I actually do qualify for WC competition, I do need to seek corporate sponsorship. I was wondering if anyone knew if Chair WC was FIE and what gear I needed being a total newbie to the arena.
Thanks for your help guys.

Array GB, you didn't start anything at all. You asked a perfectly reasonable question on this forum, and Brad gave you the best answer.
Chase, however, is being his normal ingratiating self. Other members of the forum decided to call him on the behavior.
Another idea for helping to get your answer is maybe one of the other athletes already competing on the World Cup level. I know in Atlanta last year I saw a couple of them buying the LP exchange mask - not visor - just in case the change went through in terms of target area for foil. They were not sure if the new target was going to apply to wheelchair, but decided the prudent choice was to get the mask that they could easily change the bib on. However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally take a look at the results. ~ Churchill

Array Even if he wasn't, he still has the right to ask the question. There's a lot of coaches, parents of fencers, club mates of disabled fencers etc... on this board.

Array NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition! Amongst our weaponry are such diverse elements as: fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope, and nice red uniforms

Array Funny enough, high performance doesn't know the answers either... PDF Here! -
But can he fence in a comfy chair?
.
I have been trying to find somethinguseful, but even the FIE and British Fencing sites seem pretty empty on the subject. Perhaps an email to the organisers of recent events would provide a more definitive answer.
I looked some more and found the International Wheelchair Fencing site. Still not overly useful, except that is says that the usual FIE rules apply unless otherwise specified. I could not find a different mask specification: http://www.iwfencing.com/rules/rules_index.htm

Array Thank you so much for the help. You guys are absolutely the best. I get to fence today for the first time since my stroke last month.
Gypsy, where did you find that Pdf? I am guessing World Cup vents are FIE, or should I ask Jeanna? Score 3 strokes, 4 seizures and 2 brain surgeries
