    political stifling on fdn

i tried responding in another thread, but apparently having legitimate differences with the liberal majority has resulted in my being censored. the post was "pending review of moderator" at 4 this afternoon, and it is still not posted. the moral of the story is to tread lightly then i guess.

Stifling? No one is stifling political discussion here. If anything, the people here encourage political discourse.

Ok... maybe that's too broad... people here encourage honest, intelligent, and respectful political discourse. See the difference, Chase?

you do realize that if you're new, which you are still, anything that the forum software think looks like spam will require moderation?

beyond that, i don't know what you posted, but the only things that get moderated around here are things that break terms of service. this is generally a pg-13 range board, and if you go further than that, you'll get censored.

Your posts, aside from being vehemently disagreed with, tend to be spattered with vitriol. Try to make your posts a little more civil, and you may actually earn some respect. Mostly, even if people think your ideas are crazy or simply don't agree with them, you'll at least have their attention and respect if you treat them with respect. Maybe even go so far as to have an open mind and put yourself in the other person's shoes. Simply shouting "fascist", "socialist", "un-American"... you get the idea... is just not terribly respectful of others.

We can disagree and still be civil.

    Just a suggestion...

I think this would be a good opportunity - what do they call it, a "teachable moment", right? - for chase to reflect a little bit.

Expressing extreme political opinions - that's going to generate heated conversation (and chase, let's be clear - your positions are extreme). But insulting other people, name-calling, and even insulting other people's religion because yours is the One True Religion, well that puts you right at the line that is objectionable enough that it might not get published.

chase, rather than taking the attitude that "those liberals are censoring me" (and btw, if this was a governmental institution, it would be that liberal organization, the ACLU, protecting your rights of assembly and free speech) you might stop for a minute and try to figure out what's going on. Maybe your positions are extreme. Maybe the way you express yourself is offensive, and sometimes crosses the line. If your objective is to convince other people that your way is right, do you think that flaming is going to bring anyone to your side?

For the rest of us: chase is very young, isn't he? (He reminds me a little of the rabid Leninist we used to have on the forum, Charred Phoenix) Maybe he needs some help growing up, and being exposed to other points of view and learning how to deal with that in a mature manner.

On the other hand, maybe his dial is stuck on "Jerk" and he'll never progress. We'll see!

I'm reading my e-mail and you guys are making me laugh

Dammit, don't spell it "mooslim" you infidel. It's "Mooselim" - upper case, and the "e', and it's the One True Religion (*). Spell it right or I'll have a suicide moose-squad crash into your car! I'm in the Holy Antler church of Bullwinkle - all the other other versions are backsliding ruminants.

Chase, you managed to get negative rep, and you're the ONLY active member on the board that that is true for. It would not surprise me if the board was automatically doing odd things. It also wouldn't surprise me if mods had set things up to see if you were being outrageously offensive before they went through. But since it's Craig's party, if he really did want to stifle people.... well then, it's up to him.

But really, if there was even some small liklihood that you weren't being targetted solely for your political beliefs, wouldn't it have made more sense to PM a mod asking what was up, rather than starting an angry thread? Wouldn't that be more likely to get you.... whatever it is that you want?

No; Alaska is. Fortunately we have Sarah Palin up there as our last bastion of defense against invasion...

But she quit! (*) Who's going to protect us from the Mooselim horde? Can we even get a nice Photoshop picture of a Mooselim terrorist with a turban and a mad gleam in his eye?

(*) Actually, that's one job she might have been qualified for, since she shot them. Hm, maybe she provoked the Moose wrath!

That certainly explains why Bullwinkle was killed.
