University of Maryland law professor David Gray said prosecutors must weigh whether Pontolillo thought he was in danger or became the aggressor. If he thought he might be severely harmed, then he was within his rights to protect himself, Gray said. "It doesn't matter if he used a gun, a sword or a frying pan."
"Became the aggressor"? Someone breaks into his garage, and he might have "became the aggressor"? If someone breaks into my place, he's going to get straight cut up. Fo' shizzle. I'm not going to wait around to read him his rights. I'm not going to wait until he collects himself enough to pull out a gun, or run away to come back in force. I will cut a sucka'!
Granted it's sad that the guy died, but he's a thief, and a stupid one at that considering he's doing a job days after being released. -

Array I wonder how/if this will impact Hopkins' turnout for fencing? This is (at least it used to be) around the time when freshmen would come out for fencing at Hopkins. Be interesting to see how many come out this year compared to the last few years.
On a more serious note, it's really a sad situation all around.

Sucks to be him. Back to an old Haiku of mine:
Rep is deserved.
None can be given.
Sadness. "I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend, to the death, your right to say it." -
