So you're saying you approve of his behavior? Ok, you set the precedent... it'll be interesting the next time a Republican is in the White House. Can't have it both ways, y'know.

Well, I've refrained from going toe-to-troll with you as you latch on to this talking point and that. But I did decide to match your dollar contribution to the man (Rob Miller-a true patriot, retired Marine) that is running against your ill-mannered foil. Like many others (more so than Wilson's supporters) I've rallied in support of civility AND unmasking the lie behind Wilson's lie. (You can go to the many fact check sites out there, like factcheck.org, to research for yourself.)

Enough is enough.

On a similar note: While Wilson has received a large amount of money, last I heard his opponent has received more. The figures I last heard were Wilson - $750,000, Miller - over $1 million (more than he spent on his entire campaign last year, which I believe was $650,000).

EDIT: This was out of yesterday's paper, I believe.

I didnt see much of an uproar from the left when someone chucked a shoe at the last president. In fact, a good number of people here though it was pretty funny. So much for mutual respect for the office.

So, no..I dont have a problem it. It made the speech almost worth watching.

I did, however, send $50 in Red Cross cigarette credits to the imprisoned Iraqi journalist, because it made the video of Bush's speech almost worth watching.

Hi!

EDIT: This was out of yesterday's paper, I believe.
I just looked up that congressional district on Wikipedia yesterday. I have the hunch that it will be an uphill battle for Miller, the GOP has held it since 1971, often winning by huge margins. Goldwater carried the state in the 1964 landslide, not something inspiring DEM confidence. The demographics are not good for Miller, 69% white -26% black. I looked over all the representative districts in the deep south (and some outlying areas), and there is a pattern. Those districts which are held by democrats in the great majority of cases have at least one of these characteristics: more blacks than whites, largely urban area, or dominated by people which hold jobs which attract democrats. South Carolina#2 does not fit any of those criteria.

Also, I suspect that Wilson will become something of a local hero for this. I predict that his local ratings will sink, but that that is a Bradley effect and that once alone in the voting booth, his fans will feel free to support him.

There is, according to wikipedia, precedence for that of sorts. Preston Books (SC) caned another congressman,Charles Summner(MA) back in 1856, which took 3 years to heal. Meanwhile, Preston Brooks resigned from congress and got immedieatly reelected, which shows what his voters thought of him. From a paper at the time:
Quote:

Representative Brooks has one town and a country named after him.

That is not to say that I condone Wilson. On the contrary, I think it rude in the extreme to interrupt, no matter the truthfulness or lack thereof on the part of Obama. Wilsons honorable course of action would have been to respond to whatever Obama had said, but during his own speech time.

I just think that those who think that his loss in 2010 is a done deal are a bit hasty to their conclusion.

Have a nice time!

It was pretty funny. And do you know why? It's one of the few times I can honestly say that W handled himself well.

I believe he was demonstrating how grateful he was for being liberated. I think someone else pointed out that the liberation of Iraq was one of W's many many good deeds.

Either way W did handle himself well in that situation.

Wow... you're really throwing out the straw men today...

It was not even an American that threw that shoe at Bush, it didn't even happen in this country, and it surely wasn't done by an elected official sitting in the U.S. House of Representatives while the President was giving a speech.

Weak, Slim.... very weak.

In poetry slam, heckling doesn't USUALLY happen, but in addition to clapping, pounding your feet on the floor, hooting, grunting, and yelling "yeeeeaaah" are all things that can and do happen, usually as signs of appreciation. It's part of the norms for the venue. I have no problem with that, as an audience member or as a performer.

In bellydance performance, there's this.... noise... that I'm entirely incapable of making... that is used to show appreciation. Some unfamiliar with the form assume that it's being disprespectful to the performers, but again, it's actually the norm.

In certain UK political forums, cheers, boos, and all sorts of other noises are --again-- the norm. It certainly can make it harder to be the politician speaking, but it's par for the course in CERTAIN venues, and should be expected. Again, I have no problem with it.

But it's not the norm at a Joint Session of Congress. I don't think it should be, I think that if we're going to start letting our representatives in congress heckle other politicians on our behalves we should start by implementing some sort of "question time" of our own. (Which isn't necessarily a bad idea. PMQ is actually quite a lot of fun and it's not even my gov't.)

Until then, there are certain events in which we pretend to show respect, even if we don't particularly feel it. Wilson's apology included "This evening I let my emotions get the best of me". Uh, what? I mean, I get that he was pressured by the Republican leadership to apologize for something I doubt he actually wanted to apologize for, but seriously? He is so out of control of his own emotions that he yells at a president during a televised address?? Doesn't that seem a little juvenile to you? I mean, made a bad political calculation I understand.....

1. Learn what a straw man means before making it your favorite expression. You'll look like less of a dolt.

2. This issue is about respect for the office, not the man. My point was your outrage when it happened to your guy, but I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you had no problem with the incoming shoe.

At least I'm consistent. Neither one of them really bothered me.

Sorry to disappoint you and AshleySimpleton here, but I'm probably less of the right winged conservative nut as you'd like to believe I am.

I am also consistant. I think that neither the reporter that tossed the shoe, nor Joe Wilson should hold a seat in Congress

I also understand your tactics. you are not a conservative. You spew factiods, and present yourself as an incredibly stupid lemming following the orders of right wing pundents. Doing this makes all conservatives look as stupid as you, and this discredits them. Then you can see your true adgenda come to fruition: "Gay porn is an inailenable right, and should be shown in schools." You are way to liberal, and you will fail
