in case you didnt know, there are laws in this country against slander. she ought to be arrested and sued. {snip}
Which statement by Couric do you think was slanderous? I'm really curious here. As MyrddinsPrecinct points out--it's pretty difficult to to defame someone by asking a question (though not impossible).

{snip} There are still criminal defamation laws in a few states. They are rarely used and subject to criticism when they are, but they are still on the books and, AIUI, so long as they follow the constitutional requirements for libel (e.g. allow truth to be a defense, require actual malice in the case of public figures and public matters, etc.) they would probably be upheld (as many of these laws predate NY Times v. Sullivan, they probably don't meet the requirements and would likely be held unconstitutional).

Array Sarah Palin needed no editing sleight-of-hand to make her look bad. She did that all by herself.
If you think Couric chopped and edited the interview herself--on her own volition--and as part of a deliberate, personal effort to make Palin come across unfavorably, then you are woefully ignorant of the layers of handling, staffing and review that exist at the network news level of the big 3. I'm a little unclear about how editiing could be slander, unless you're actually dubbing in answers to different questions or some such.

--Philistine if you actually watched the video gov. palin mentioned editing/chopping/splicing. i think she would know because she was actually THERE (unlike any of you). Bury socialist healthcare with Ted Kennedy.

Well i watched the link, and when Palin said "editing/chopping/splicing" the full quote was "I never saw the interview after it was edited/chopped/spliced, and then aired, so I do not know"
Maybe you should try again there chase "There is a fine line between clever and stupid" David St. Hubbins -

I would imagine Couric says that it did not happen. Since she was there, too, she must know, right?
You're making the argument that because she says something happened and she was there, she must be telling the truth, yet are not applying this same standard to Couric. To channel Inq here, if Palin is making an accusation (which I'm not sure of anyway), as the accuser it's her job to bring forth evidence. I don't understand his argument at all.......not only did Palin not make an accusation, but she admited she never saw the interview air. "There is a fine line between clever and stupid" David St. Hubbins -

And...no politician has ever claimed to have never made a controversial statement, been misquoted, or had their words edited out of context...only to later be confronted with the actual videotape showing just the opposite.
