*(this is tangential at best, feel free to skip to the next bullet point) Nah, the last bullet point really doesn't work for me. I mean, I phrased it like that, despite the fact that as much as we may disagree on exact reading of the First, we all agree it's a good idea. As amendments go, it's not as controversial as some others(2, apparently now 10?). I was trying out your "insult the other party by not only not using capitals and take off a couple letters" thing. Let's assume the dropping the capital was a typo, because it actually removes the proper noun quality, which makes things confusing and ambiguous, not insulting. But this whole "Democrat party" thing is insulting? Or, more insulting than the "Democratic party"??? I've read essays of the history of it and I still don't get it. Cutting off a couple letters really doesn't make me feel insulted, it just makes me think that you can't bother to type a couple extra letters, or you can't be bothered to come up with an insult that... sounds insulting.
*I'm pretty sure Obama gets to say words without a teleprompter all the time. You just might not be listening. I mean, just dragging the teleprompter around all the time, adjusting distance and angle... that would be REALLY ANNOYING. Not worth the effort for dinner with the family, I would think...
*So, let's go with this interesting logic for a moment: Obama's a puppet for the entire Democratic party, and has no original thoughts.... That means that at least a majority of Democrats think that Kanye is a jackass. .... That actually sounds reasonable. That wouldn't surprise me. It also wouldn't surprise me if Obama came to the conclusion all on his own. Lots of other Democrats have. So... I mean, if it was on the record, it probably would have been at least a little out of line. As it wasn't, it still probably wasn't very nice to say, regardless of its truthiness. So if Kanye was offended, I wouldn't be surprised or think much of it. If his friends/fans/allies/etc are offended, again, seems reasonable. Even if you're offended on principle, I'm still not really going to fight you on it.
I'm just not sure why it proves, disproves or in any way affects whether or not Obama is anyone's puppet.
(BTW, I wasn't watching, just hearing people's reactions that night. When I saw clips of what happened the day after..... I really had expected something much worse than what had happened given the way people were talking....) -

Array You know, I'm not sure why the whole teleprompter issue is a big deal to some people. Especially when it came up on the campaign, mostly since at least then he wrote many of his speeches himself, and according to the guy that was later his head speechwriter, president Obama was very involved in the authoring of his own speeches. So using a teleprompter to deliver speeches that he authored in whole or in part demonstrates what, a failure to fully memorize? Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem

Reason: I said the comments were posted on Facebook when I meant to say Twitter.

And for the record, no, I wouldn't care if someone threw a shoe at Obama in Iraq. But I think that interrupting a Presidential address sets a frightening precedent.
On the other hand, most of the health care debate appears to involve screaming things like "LIES!" and "SOCIALISM!" at each other and not much to do with parts of the actual law. -

But, I do enjoy the Hypocrisy of the left struggle when their chosen one shows hes human. If Palin had said the same thing, she would have been labeled a racist.
And no, the congressman should not have shouted out like he did during the Presidents speech. At first I thought is was no big deal and maybe we need more of that, but upon further thinking, I realize 535 shouting at the same time is not going to accomplish anything.
What is so funny is how people here look for things to rant about. For example, being insulted because I didn't capitalize president and democrat. If you notice in that post, I did capitalize President Obama. I'm just having to type with one hand and why I haven't answered my opinion on the republicans plan.
I apologize for not being able to resist pushing liberal's buttons just by pointing out their own actions. -

Array I think you mean perceived hypocrisy of a situation you just made up.
For instance, take a real situation: when Bush called that reporter an asshole in 2000 I don't remember an uproar. Or, from the left, when Kerry called that secret service guy a son of a ***** in 2004. I didn't really care, nor did anyone after both made their rounds, as I recall.
Also, don't worry about Palin. She doesn't need to do anything to be labeled a racist.
Edit: By the way, in my opinion what Kerry did was much worse than what Bush did. Bush's comment being almost a positive to me.

When I mentioned you didn't capitalize "democrat", I specifically noted that it very well might have been a typo- and it was likely enough that I just assumed it to be true. I also noted that the whole "democrat" thing was something that many people apparently do use to be insulting, but that it's not something I find insulting, and don't understand why others do.
So no one has ranted about you not capitalizing president and democrat, and if people have been insulted, they haven't mentioned it here.
I think you may think that some of us take this (and you) more seriously than we actually do. Array I think the capitalization thing goes back to FF's awesome Jew/jew debacle. -

It just strains credulity. We're doing this: not this
Of all of Cheney's faults, swearing and calling names is not one that bothered me. -

Seriously, about Palin. Why do people here really hate her! -

I do not see a government plan, that is supposed to reduce overall health care costs, letting you choose a more expensive procedure over an acceptable less expensive procedure.
