LP GT Barrels Not Fitting Foil Blades

    Hey All,

Was wondering if you all ever came across this problem before. I ordered the new Leon Paul GT Complete Kits (F20GT). I went to put the barrel on to my foil blade I went to rewire and came to find out that the threads in the barrel do not go all the way down inside the barrel and the would not catch the threads on the blade. Are the new GT Foil tips like this or did I get a bad batch? Any suggestions or solutions to this problem? Thanks in advance for your help.

Happened on one BG blade with one used GT barrel. Used another used GT barrel.

Sounds like something slipped through QA. I got a bunch of hex nuts and found a couple without threads. Makes it hard to put grips on.

Doesn't the point cost more than the blade?

Not that I've heard of, except when I bought a bunch of PBT foil blades REALLY cheap when I was at the World Vets in Hungary in 2000! Got what I paid for, too. All ten broke within a year, but hey, for $9 a blade it wasn't a bad deal.

The LP GT (and regular) foil barrels are NOT threaded all the way down the barrel. There is a small separation between the bottom of the barrel and where the threading begins, sometimes causing problems if the collar of the blade is thicker than "standard."

Its important to note : This is a Feature not a Bug.

    Overcoming Variances

I recycle parts including contacts and solder cups, so the per-use cost drops significantly. In this case, there was a variance between the blade and barrel. I have sufficient supply to overcome the variance.

Unfortunately true of Balestra blades as well. I love the way LP defines these "standards" that no-one else ever happens to meet...

I'm going to get out the old Dremel and see if I can grind down the blade just aft of the threads without weakening it, or if that's not feasible, to whack off the too-small tail end of the LP barrel.

Well, I ground and filed and rounded the blade aft of the threads, but the durn LP GT barrel still won't go more than one turn on the blade.

Are there different standards on the threads of the tips? Does LP use English threads or some other stupid choice?

The rules specify threading sizes for both foil and epee tips (3.5 for foil and 4.0 for epee). AFAIK LP conforms to those standards (which doesn't necessarily mean that someone might not have messed up on either the barrel or the blade).

I recently rewired three foil blades with LP barrels yesterday, and I will say that they did feel a bit more snug when threading onto a blade then French or German barrels usually do, and there was one older blade where the LP barrel wouldn't fit at all (at the time I simply but it aside and grabbed a new blade, but I'll have to try an old French barrel on that one some time, just to see if it's the blade or the barrel)
