Array That's moderately funny, but I was kinda going for the "rips off the rubber face mask to reveal alien space lizard welcoming Cthulhu's planetary domination" paranoid fantasy.
So, how much of the whining about Obama like the topic of this thread is paranoid delusion and how much is rabid partisanship?
For context, BTW, Newt Gingrich said on Fox News Sunday "It is good to have the president of the United States say to young people across America, 'Stay in school, study and do your homework". On the same show, Sen. Lamar Alexander (R. Tenn) said "Of course the president of the United States should be able to address students", and "If I were a teacher, I'd take advantage of it". See, there really are conservative Republicans who know that this is innocuous. "In theory, theory and practice are the same, but in practice, theory and practice are different." -

Much more of the latter, very little of the former. It was the 'guidelines" being passed down, which were revised after people called them on the language.
Hypersensitive? Maybe. But It's ok with me if it distracts the administration and congress from trying to concentrate on their socialized medicine plan. Truth is Liberal. -

On a quick look-though, the currently posted guidelines seem identical to those posted in your original post.

I love how all the people who were ranting about the speech now realize that it wasn't a big deal after all.
The sad part is that they're taking credit for getting Obama to "change" the speech, and that's the only reason it was ok.
Circular logic at it's best.... is there such a thing as a "circular fantasy"? - Wisdom is the knowledge of how much you don't know. -

Array Many of the people complaining were just idiots parroting better paid idiots with television/radio shows. The text and even the lesson plan was made available for anyone who wanted to read it to review. If after you read both, you still felt like your child was being indoctrinated with socialist ideas then you truly are slow. I heard a parent on television making the argument (because that's all she had left) that President Obama shouldn't be telling kids to stay in school that's the parents job. Yeah.....um yeah we know that. He's just reinforcing what you as a parent should have already told your kids. That President Obama just doesn't know his place. How dare he care about the future of America? Tsk. -

--Philistine I believe I read in USA Today somewhere that it was the line (paraphrased) "What can I do to best serve the President?" that drew the most fire and was quickly changed. I don't remember for sure though, but I am sure I read something about one or two lines being changed. "I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend, to the death, your right to say it." -

I googled it, and the only change was: Old
"Write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president. These would be collected and redistributed at an appropriate later date by the teacher to make students accountable to their goals." Link to Original Guideline New
"Write letters to themselves about how they can achieve their short-term and long-term education goals. These would be collected and redistributed at an appropriate later date by the teacher to make students accountable to their goals." Link to Revised Guideline
Both were under the heading "Extension of the Speech. Teachers could extend learning by having students:" (and contained a number of other suggestions, which were innocuous). Oddly, Slim's quote in his first post excluded this section (either the old or the new), hence my confusion.

And what was so bad about this speech? Or did you not read the text in the link I posted.
And you call Obama a moron? Have you wiped the previous 8 years from your memory?? At least Obama can complete a coherent sentence....Bush needed Cheney to tie his shoes. -

I see they didn't teach you how to write good sentences. That was money well spent.

The above demonstrates why public schools are festering toilets. I am thankful that my parents had the insight to place me in a private, Christian school, where we didn't have to listen to the type of moron speeches that I'm reading here.
Anyone else want to take a crack at rewriting the above paragraph to be coherent? Mine is a faulty, public school education and I was never more than a C student in English. -

Mobs of school aged childeren have rushed out of the public schools where they had been subjected to the indocturnation of our Dear Leader Obama and are currently forcing every person in site to submit to retena scans or be subjected to immediate public flogging by wet lasagna noodles... leaders of these so called 'Liberation Brigades' are said to be foaming at the mouth as they...
