Question Fund-raisers

Does anyone have any ideas for fencing fund-raisers? We could do with some more club equipment......

Anything any other sort of organization does: carwashes, raffles, bake sales.

One club apparently had a car wash and when the traffic light at the nearest intersection changed they had two members fence across from one corner to the other using the crosswalk as strip. ( Choreographed, obviously. )

Only sabre fencers would have been fast enough to avoid the traffic. And they were, I think, epeeists. So that would be a "no".

There was a club that recently posted on a Facebook Epee page with a link to their Cafe Press store asking people to purchase clothing, bumper stickers, etc. to help them purchase a new score box. I forget the name of the club at the moment, but that was an idea I got last year with Ball State.

You can set the prices of items in your store higher than the retail price so you can make some profit of off them. After you make a set amount, Cafe Press sends you a check (or deposits it if you wish) of your profits. Not only can you have people outside your club purchase items (like friends or parents), but you also make money off the club members who wanna buy something (like a water bottle or tote bag). I originally went with Cafe Press to do our club shirts because it allowed members to purchase different shirts/sweatshirts and we weren't stuck spending club money on shirts that nobody picked up or paid back.

That was Bradley University.

You should buy stuff support a fellow midwest club!
http://www.cafepress.com/BradleyFencing.406044780 <-- especially this shirt because it kicks ass.

Cafe press' main problem is its expensive. Most people wont pay that much for a shirt.
The other problem is you only get paid in increments of $25 as a minimum.

P.S.
How can you hate illustrator? Vectors are such a convenience.

Vectors are amazing!! However, after learning Photoshop first, then Illustrator, I want things in Illustrator to respond to me like they do in Photoshop, but the controls on some (not all) of the tools are different, so I need to get used to them.

I've actually gotten a lot better at Illustrator and have been creating some nice vector-based graphics recently for use in Flash and AfterEffects, so I guess I should change my quote to "I hate AfterEffects" because I can't seem to figure it out, even with online tutorials. :-p

elberto will become famous soon enough
I had a donut machine (my mom's actually... she closed a coffee shop she ran for someone else and kept the machine... ) and sold donuts at adelaide university (with the student unions permission although the cafe was pissed they didn't sell as many cake)..
in cold weather we had people lining up...

I first did it in my first year and donated 50 per session to the club (rest went to me and costs..) - 7 sessions $350 donated...
easy money (as I had run the machine many time for schools and fairs and donated most of the money like this)..

It was the first real time someone had made any serious effort in fundraising at the club (probably in the state besides raffles... quiz nights... - the problem with these is you always have the same people and get money off members again and again.... it is a bit of a drag whereas donut machine .. well it was fun too... and took usually 2 or three pople to run it... it was a manual machine [not the huge expensive ones - just a big container of hot fat heated by an element but it was and is a professional machine not some home made jobby...)..

one day I started heating up the machine - it was stinking hot - so i got the idea to sell drinks too - bought some cups, cordial and ice (used the big water container I had for the donut mix - it was a whitewings [brand] mix - just add water and spoon into the dropped - it drops the donut rings into the hot fat)... that day sold a lot more glasses of cordial but only made around $20 - way too hot for donuts...

sorry went on a bit (habit of mine I guess..)..

but most fundraising I have seen just depends on the people already involved in the sport (plus friends and family) to give money whereas this didn't dip into the club members etc as usual....

did donuts for the club for years and donated a lot of money - funnily enough they made me club treasurer end of my first year (for some strange reason... also a job no one else really wanted!!)

ps did donuts for the 2 other university clubs to help them out as i really enjoy my fencing and wanted to see them do well - the better they were the better they would make my club [or so i though.... but people change I guess... maybe they thought i had dodgy ulterior motives in the fencing arena ..lol]
