They flew me to Barrow last night. I am sitting here in bed. Robin and I talked with dr Spetzler this morning and he wants to take a vessel out of my arm and totally shut off the basilar artery. I don't know how soon he can do the surgery. I am so scared and don't know what decision to make

Generally, the solution to fear is good information.
Do a bit of your own research, talk it out with others, know what questions to ask, and possibly get a second opinion. If/when you've found a physician/surgeon with whom you are comfortable, trust in his/her training.
(I'm facing another rather major knee surgery, and that's what's helping me make my medical decisions)
So far your doctors have done a good job in keeping you alive despite your body's need to self-destruct. You might want them to take it out of your non-fencing arm. Good luck with whatever option you decide on. We're all pulling for ya!

They've got the right idea, yea. Go through all of your options, weigh the pros and cons, and decide what the right one would be. You've done a lot of reading, and a quick search through google or amazon might bring up some past cases, see what other people's experiences were. Check a few blogs as well. It's alright to be afraid. If it helps, I'll save a spot for you in my prayers. Good luck. I have the utmost faith that you'll come through alright.
Nuts its hard to do this on a Blackberry. Anyway, a resident was in last night and they are going to review the films again this morning to see if they can go to a plan B. Keep everything crossed. Good thing I already fence chair.
