Question about ulmann/allstar fie mask warrenty

I recently bought an ulmann FIE sabre mask with a removable bib. However, after little the mask has developed a rip in the bib on the left side. The rip is about a circle that is about .75 cm wide. It does not penetrate all the way through...just through the conductive layer.
I dont believe ulmann has a warrenty that would let me replace it, but i was just asking to see if they do.
Also, is there anything i can do to fix it so that it will still be acceptable at nacs and summer nationals?
    Thanks

I will post pic in a bit

    Michael,

I don't know if Uhlmann provides any warranties. I would call the retailer where you purchased the mask and speak with them about it.

Sewing with conductive thread or a patch should do the trick.

It'd be very ironic if he bought it from you!

HAHA yeah, it would be ironic. Too bad I purchased from BG :\

    Craig,
Do you think that they would give me maybe a discount if I purchased another one?
    Thanks

I have an extra foil lame from a couple years ago that I dont need. How would I go about patching the mask?

    Craig, one more question
In the fencingnet youtube video reviewing the fwf fie sabre mask, the bracket/plate that covers the lame material underneith is a L shape and has one strip of metal going verticaly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Hsv7zRcvwo

However, at the fencing.net shop there is only the horizontal metal platethat covers the lame. If I ordered the mask, would I get one that has a vertical metal plate or not? Did FWF change the mask design?

    Thanks again

That is definitely repairable and a not-uncommon occurance in sabre masks.

The Care and Feeding of All Things Fencing written by FNet's very own Mergs undoubtedly has instructions or how such patching ought to be accomplished. It can also be done professionally at NACs (the repair booth for SwordMasters does similar repairs routinely, others may offer similar services as well).

No need to sacrifice an entire lame just for that little thing. Even a dying lame will usually have a few decent areas that can be used for patching, and barring that you can probably buy a little bit of patching material for a lot less than the cost of a lame.

Simply cut a patch of conductive material large enough to completely cover the damaged area (it looks like a 1 inch square should suffice), fold the edges of the patch underneath in order to ensure metal to metal contact between the patch and the lame, then stitch it down. It doesn't necessarily have have to be pretty, just tight enough keep to keep a point from catching underneath and less than 5 ohms resistance between the patch and any other point on the mask.

Unfortunately any patch is pretty much guaranteed to attract attention whenever the mask is inspected so you may want to check it from time to time, just to make sure the stitching hasn't come loose.

    That mask plate is accurate.
