Array Apollo Moon Landings I am surprised that there's not been a thread about this, considering the date and the professions of a few people on here... -

Array Boy, I remember it. We were driving through Plain City, Ohio and there was a light mist falling. Plain City was a large Amish town and we had just passed a horse and buggy when I heard on the radio,"Tranquility Base, the Eagle has landed." Score 3 strokes, 4 seizures and 2 brain surgeries
I've had brain surgery, what's your excuse? -

Array I'm surprised we haven't been back. What we need is a new space race, a little competition to keep people in school, create more jobs, and get us pushing the limits of what is technologically possible.
That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if Buzz Aldrin gets his own reality show. X_X -

Array I assume we'll be going back, since many "established" real estate companies are selling off lunar real estate. http://www.lunarlandowner.com/ http://www.mahalo.com/how-to-buy-land-on-the-moon http://www.lunarregistry.com/
The internet never ceases to amuse me. "All epeeists wear very expensive running shoes which they have invariably stolen. It is a mark of shame in the epee subculture to wear legally-purchased footwear. Naturally this is difficult to ascertain merely by looking, and of course asking about it can lead to other complications."---Dave Barry (assist to Peach) -

Array Don't laugh, I have some sweet beach side property on the Sea of Tranquility. -

Array Man kind speculated for generations that the moon was made of cheese.
They went there and brought back rocks...
... and haven't been back since.
Behold the power of cheese. -

Array My eldest sister relayed a story about the moon landing to me yesterday.
The family was all together, watching the tv set in the living room and they were telling me "A man has landed on the moon!"
I ran outside, studied the moon for a bit and yelled back "No he didn't."

Array Got to watch the launch from Mike Collins' livingroom with some of the other neighborhood kids. Will never forget it.
Watched the landing in the Civil Air Patrol orderly room at summer encampment at Ellington field on a whopping huge 27" B&W tv. Awesome.
It's why after I left active duty I worked my way back to Houston to work in the space program. Have since become somewhat disillusioned because of the reactive nature of NASA. No strategic plan or vision. And, no, JFK was not visionary, he was just reacting to the Russian 'firsts' in space and set the bar as high as he thought feasible. OK, so we did it. Big whoop in the greater scheme of things. Yeah our space station is bigger, better (maybe) and faster than MIR, but again, it was a knee jerk reaction to the Russian 7 or 8 space stations that have flown since (and before) SKYLAB (which was an 'oh, c**p, what do we do next, since Apollo 18, 19 and 20 were cancelled?)
Find oil on the moon, and see how fast we go back! -

Array You people are so dumb, dont you realize the "Moon landings" were staged? The only question is exactly where they were filmed. Some people think it was in a sound stage in Hollywood, but I think it's more likely that it was out in Area 51 in Nevada.

And very very cool.
Especially since the pictures were taken at only half the Lunar Reconnaissance Oriters' resolution ability. The preceding post brought to you by Rabid Monk (TM). Rabid Monk: informative, irreverent, interesting, random and downright odd posts, done with pride since 1983. -
Definitely cool. I remember sitting by the radio for Alan Shepard's Mercury launch and watching the recovery at my elementary school on B&W TV. I watched every launch that I could and dreamed of being an astronaut. Never happened, but I did get to work on a NASA contract for 10 years and my father worked on the Space Shuttle project. It's been a pretty cool thing to see. The spirit is willing, but the fleche is weak. Similar Threads -
