I notice you're staying away from the origins of the English word "Emperor".
The English word doesn't matter to discussions of a system the preceded it by a thousand years.

The Latin root meant, in Caesar's time, a general who had been granted a triumph by the Senate, nothing more. By the time of Tiberius its meaning had changed subtly because no one but the hereditary ruler was permitted to adopt the title any longer.

The meaning of words changes. Someone who was 'gay' in the 19th century was not assumed to be homosexual; today he almost certainly is. Thus with imperator as well. Caesar was in a different political class than his successors.

Because what is relevant is that all of the above ruled Rome.
No, it's not. MPB is a genetic condition transmitted through the maternal line, not a conferred title.

And the sequence still doesn't even hold water according to the primary evidence.

Considering the rulers of the Russian Empire/USSR/Russian Republic aren't hereditary either, it remains an oddity.

And I guess you can pick and chose from whatever evidence you want.

(And I'm surprised you haven't read "I, Claudius")

We became in charge of a lot of things, because we took the lead in World War II if we hadn't we would not be the world police - they would. It would be interesting, I haven't seen the new film F'in Basturds, but it is supposed to be about 'what would have happened if.....the Nazi's won the war? it would be a completely different world, who can write the script for that? All of Hitler's friends would be running the show; they were about to run through Africa, but they were stopped, what would it have been like? A sort of machine age Roman Centry [sound the trumpets] and we'd all have to salute to their new style and no-one would really know the difference because we'd all have been born into it.

But I think that we're slowing getting out of that roll, and I'm pretty sure it's because we don't have the huge amounts of money that we once had; the euro 'evened out the playing field' a bit; I think Europe will be taking a more prominent role in the future fifty years or so, but it gives us that chance to build up the infrastructure of the USA - it takes a long time to get things back together - I think 50 or 100 years to really make it rich again.

You're wrong about WWII. Don't believe the hype of the myth that Hollywood has been creating.
