Array Veteran's Tournament: 11th Annual Fete de Lune Friends,
The Clear Lake Fencing Club will hold the 11th annual Fete de Lune veterans' fencing tournament on Saturday, August 22, 2009 in the gym of the Clear Lake Church of Christ, 938 El Dorado Blvd, Houston, TX, 77062.
For those coming from out of town or the farther parts of Houston, this will prove much more convenient as it is much closer to I-45.
This is NOT where we held tournaments before Hurricane Ike. It IS the same location as our Spring Open a few months back. Of note to both veteran fencers and referees... the gym is carpeted.
There will be both mixed and women's competitions in each weapon. Medals will be given for 1st-3rd in each age group.
Additionally the 1st, 2nd & both 3rd place winners in each of the three mixed events will receive ships in bottles.
The 1st, 2nd & both 3rd place winners in each of the three women's events will receive a medal cast from a Spanish 8 Real coin (the proverbial "pieces of eight").
The Grand Prize for the female fencer who does best overall among those who compete in all three women's events will be a string of pearls. Last year's Grand Prize winner in women's fencing was Diane Kallus.
The Grand Prize for the fencer who fares best overall in the three mixed events will be, as is our tradition, will be a fencing weapon with a unique, hand crafter guard of polished copper and sterling silver. The chosen weapon rotates year-to-year. Last year it was a sabre won by Curtis Hardy. This year it will be an epee.
(I will try to post some pics in a few days as it develops).
The referee cadre (tentatively) includes Micheal Ross, Justin Meehan, Gary Van der Wege, Davis Jno-Finn & Damian Berntsen.
Just as we did last year, we will meet after the event at a local restaurant for food, drink, fun and awards.
Pre-registration, to the surprise of no one, is via AskFRED -

Array I would go, if it looked like it was going to attract more people. Long trip for 8, though. Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! Similar Threads -
