Array Simple question Apologies if I overlooked instructions here or elsewhere. I want to be absolutely certain I understand the terms and conditions of usage before making a purchase.
If one purchases a download, I presume that means we have the image and can print it ourselves. Can we also put that image on our webpage with appropriate credit or do copyright restrictions apply?
If one purchases a download with editorial, does that mean I can use Photoshop or some other program to make editing changes (for example) to the background behind me? Once I finish editing, is this a photo that I can upload to my webpage, Facebook, LiveJournal, iPod, cell phone, etc. or is usage restricted to printing?
There are so many things that one can do with an image download... -

Thanks for your questions - we always appreciate when people take the time to ask about this. In general, we're pretty liberal about authorizing individuals to use most photos while still retaining the copyright to them (our photos are copyrighted by the individual photographer).
Images taken at world championships, grand prix events, and the Olympic Games fall under different licensing.
For photos from USFA events, such as Summer Nationals, here's what you can do:
1. You can make prints and [reasonable] copies from the image downloads.
2. You can put them on your personal web page, cell phone, facebook, myspace, etc. Credits and/or hyperlinks to FencingPhotos.com are always appreciated.
3. Images may not be intentionally widely copied and distributed (a few copies to friends & family is OK).
4. Images may not be resold.
5. Images may not be used commercially (e.g., in an advertisement, as part of an endorsement, on a commercial business graphic, etc.). This is a separate license; please email/call to ask us about it separately.
6. An exception to #5 is that we're fine with using the images on your club, division, or section web sites providing a credit is given.
7. "Editorial" usage means photos purchased by and for use by the bona fide press in a magazine, newspaper, TV story, Web site, etc. It does not mean the image can be "edited" in Photoshop or some other image-editing application. If you want to alter an image, cropping is OK. If want to artistically alter an image beyond that (e.g., using Photoshop filters, Corel Paint, etc.), it's fine if only for personal, non-published use. For anything beyond that (e.g., to put onto your Web site, Facebook, etc.), please ask us first because the specific photographer needs to give permission.
If you're ever unsure, please just call or drop us an email and we'll let you know. Our goal is to promote fencing, not to make it more complicated and difficult. That said, we still need to honor copyrights and the intellectual/artistic talents of the photographers, videographers, and artists we use. -

Array LOTS of New Summer Nationals Photos Last night I posted several hundred new photos from Summer Nationals. There are new galleries, as well as a number of existing galleries with images added to them. Lots of new action shots. I still have a very few things to add, but 98% of the images are live, categorized, and ready for viewing.
Thanks to our professional photographers and videographer at Summer Nationals:
Amy A. Timacheff (medal ceremonies)
Chris Germano (strip shoots and catch of the day)
Duncan Heath (strip shoots and catch of the day)
Ben Yagolnikov (videography)
Also, thanks to all of you for your support, patronage, and patience, and to all of you who took one of my two Fencing Photography Workshops!

Array Just a few thousand more ... I've updated FencingPhotos.com's coverage of Summer Nationals with several thousand more photos ... mostly all of action from various events. I've added multiple galleries identified by the event and the word "action" that include a lot of photos and bouts people have been requesting. This completes all of the photos we will be posting.
We tried to get our photographers out onto the strips to get lots of various shots when they weren't on assignment. I hope you all like them!

Array Y'know....it IS kinda gratifying to look at some of these pics and see one of my gloves out there!
Even better is one of them is an Armor ONE! Purple color, black palm....the first set I ever had made....that glove's about three years old...first came out for the 2006 Palm Desert Open.
Looks like it's in fairly good shape....but I just DID get an order for some new ones from that particular fencer. Similar Threads -
