It looks like Igor and Sherraine redeemed themselves in the teams (or does a black card in singles bar you from team competition?).

Igor received a black card during the individual ME event. As a result he could not compete in the MET event 3 days later.

Sherraine was not black carded. She competed in both individual and team events.

Igor has gotten away with a number of black-cardeable offences oveer the years and I guess it was a matter of time till he got one. It's just too bad that it has happened at such a high-level competition on a day when he was fencing incredibly well (2nd after pools). And from what I've heard from several different people, this was not the most clear-cut black card-eable offence out there. Maybe oiuyt can enlighten us.

I don't know oiuyt personally... but I suspect from his demonstrated character that the guy deserved it.

Did he fail to salute the score box?

My guess is that the FIE would not like its refs to comment on the web about such things. I would even hope so. But hopefully one of the fencers or spectators could dish =)

Agreed. After all, the refs interpretation of the situation cannot be challenged. Still, would be nice to know from an outsider's (i.e. non Canadian's) perspective...

Not only can black cards be challenged, they can be rescinded, depending on the circumstances, who was involved and the mood of the Bout Committee...
