I'm glad to see that you are building up funding to pay your coaches' way. If this was a USFA event we would send some of our fencers. Good luck iwth your non-sactioned event!

    Off askfred:
A friendly Friday night epee rumble. This will NOT be a USFA sanctioned event.

    Events Scheduled:
    Mixed Epee 6:30PM
$10 for one fencer, $5 for the second fencer from the same family.

All proceeds go towards the coaches travel fund through our 501(c).

Due to division bylaws events must be listed on the division calendar at least 30 days prior to be considered for sanctioning. Often these Friday night events are ad-hoc just days before the event and few are even listed on askfred. With all of the new parents wanting to help out, we are also using these events for training. In this case, the tournament was set up on askfred by a new fencer parent, and new fencer parents will (for the most part) be running the event.

As for the coaches travel fund, we've had many more of our fencers traveling to NAC's, JO's, and Summer Nationals than in the past. With our National Champion from the summer and others finishing in the top 8 getting medals, some of our intermediate fencers are now wanting to compete at that level. It's often a large contingent now. With all of our coaches being volunteers, every little bit helps.

Anybody is welcome, provided of course that they are USFA members. So if any of your fencers did want to come and fence we could get them signed up with USFA.

Just to clarify - this is a non-sanctioned event only for purposes of awarding ratings. We will still require USFA membership to compete due to insurance issues, etc. I noticed that, as of today, High Plains Fencing has ZERO competitive members listed on the USFA's official membership list for the Division. Maybe this wouild be a good opportunity to sign up your fencers with USFA and give them some practice since nobody from High Plains Fencing has competed in a USFA tournament since August 1, 2009.

Our club doesn't really fence epee much, we never really have. If I can get away from the Soccer practice at the AAYC that night Johnathan and myself may stop in.

If it was a foil event we might be more apt to be there since that is what most of our fencers fence.

Amarillo Friday Night Foil Rumble Apr 23, 2010

This event will be limited to Senior fencers (born 1996 or earlier). The first 18 fencers to preregister on Ask FRED will be guaranteed a spot in the tournament. However, you may preregister and be on standby should a fencer withdraw or fail to appear.

This will be a USFA "sanctioned" event.

    More Info here.

Thanks for the info we are going to post this up in at the Amarillo Activity Youth Center and see if anyone is interested. I have not fenced an event where we fence off for ALL places in a long time. This will give everyone a lot more chances at fenicng.

I'm not sure whom all is attending at this point from HPF but both Victoria and myself registered tonight as number 9 and 10 fencer and looks like its going to be fun.

I'm unsure of the limit of 18 because the even brackets would be for 16 or 32 but sonnds like it should be a lot of fun anyway.

Time to dust the rust off my blades.

If we have more than 16 fencers (17 or 18) then the bottom two or four fencers will fence off to get into the bracket of 16. Then we will fence off all places in the top 16. Those who do not get into the top 16 are eliminated by their one direct elimination bout. The reason we are limiting the tournament to a maximum of 18 fencers is because of the size of the room available. Three strips with pools of six fencers. This will allow us to complete the tournament around 11 p.m. Seven fencer pools means we don't finish until midnight.

If everyone shows up this will be a C1 rated tournament. We still need at least one more fencer to reach the necessary 16. It would also be nice to have the extra two fencers as a safeguard against someone not showing up who has preregistered.
