There are two things worth upgrading to FIE from the start and they are mask and plastron.
The plastron is not such a big investent to step up to FIE and it is well worth it from a safety perspective. The mask is more of an investment however if you are looking at X change then this is only FIE anyway.

I'm really thinking about just getting the FIE set to start with. I added everything up (with lame and XC ice mask) and the regular electric set is like 300 less than FIE.
