Array Tri-State Cup Competition We are bouncing around the idea of a "Tri-State Cup" competition where fencers earn points in (1) Amarillo, Texas at the Amarillo Open; (2) in Albuquerque or Santa Fe, New Mexico at the New Mexico Open; and (3) in Colorado Springs at the USAFA at the Falcon Open. The male and female fencer with the highest combined points would win an appropriate prize which might include free registration in that event in all three tournaments for the following year. Male fencers would earn points in the Senior Mixed Open Events and female fencers would earn points in the Senior Mixed Open and/or the Senior Women's events. Obviously, lots of details need to be worked out. These three tournaments are likely to be scheduled during September to November, 2009.
Ideas everyone?

If everything you try works, you are not trying hard enough.

Array Might be a good idea. Last year the Plains Texas-New Mexico Cup seemed to be going well but what happened to it this season? -

Array It is still going. The points list is on Ask FRED. We had a setback when the Santa Fe Challenge turned into an epee only event. Since the New Mexico Division's listed events were (1) NM Open (2) Nick Toth - in COLORADO and (3) the Santa Fe Challenge - without foil and saber, some of us thought a revamping of some sort is in order.
So we are working on this new idea. If everything you try works, you are not trying hard enough.

This idea came about because Coach Salem, Jamey Odom, and the ACFA folks all scheduled a tournament Oct 24-25. So in trying to resolve the date issue for the three tournaments, we thought is might be a good idea to have this triple crown type of event. It would have a compressed schedule of no more than a couple of months versus the entire season for the Plains Texas/NM cup. -

Array We've tried a lot of things in the past to try to get all the divisions to try to work together, this might work if the prizes were impressive enough. -

Array Tentative Dates for Tri-State tournaments We have checked with Amarillo College and Carter Fitness Center is available on October 3-4, 2009, for the Amarillo Open. We have started the process to get that venue for October 3-4, 2009 for our tournament. This is the same venue that we used last year on the MAIN campus of Amarillo College. Much more convenient than the east campus we have used in previous years.
See next post for dates of the 3 tournaments in the Tri-State Cup competition.
