2009 Summer Nationals local information The Local Organizing Committee for Summer Nationals has created an information site about North Texas and Grapevine for your trip to Summer Nationals: www.usfasummernationals.com
I would like to personally thank James Henningson from Dallas Fencers Club for his hard work in creating this site for us. If you have any additional questions or would like to volunteer your help, please call the number below or email the committee at: championships@fenceintexas.org

Well done! Was this site the idea of the LOC alone, or did the USFA ask you to
work it up? It is obviously a great template not just for future SN, but for next season's NACs as well. -

James did all the work, we just gave him input and ideas - so he deserves all the credit for the site. (We're more than a little proud of it...) Our (specifically, James') idea was to build a site that can be handed off to the next LOC - that's why we have the "generic" URL.
The "About North Texas" page has some valuable links if you are looking for things to do while here, etc.
If you've ever been an LOC, you know that it takes a whole LOT of folks working together to make it happen - and in a year when the economy is bad, it's even tougher... We are very fortunate in North Texas to have a great group of clubs that support each other and want to make Summer Nationals a great experience for everyone.
Also, if you're coming for the Coupe du Monde in Dallas June 19-22, we are your LOC. If you need any local information for that, let us know.

How about a link to people who would consider acting as hosts, providing rooms for those fencers who are closed out of hotels? I'm not suggesting they do it for free, but a host family network would a good backup system when THS is booked. -

There was another thread where they (incredibly) had indeed offered to put up people for free.

Here is the first post on that thread:

Can't afford a hotel for Summer Nationals?
Some of us here in the area are trying to find a way to host fencers FOR FREE. That's right, a FREE place to stay. I can't guarantee to find you something more than a couch or a spot on someone's floor, but we know that a lot fencers are hurting because of the recession. We want you to be able to come to Texas for Summer Nationals. If that means begging our fencers to let you stay with them, we'll try to arrange it.
Things you would get:
--a place to lay your weary head--maybe on a floor in a sleeping bag, but someplace
--access to a shower/tub and a bathroom
--access to laundry facilities
--friendly Texas hospitality
Things you would provide:
--transportation for yourself to and from the airport
--transportation for yourself to and from the venue
--meals for yourself
--gratitude toward your Texan host(s)
If the only thing keeping you from coming to Summer Nationals is the cost of a hotel, let me know by PM or by emailing me at kseiler@hotmail.com. I'll do what I can to make sure you can get a place to sleep. -

A sad day, I just learned Zini's doesn't deliver to the Grapevine area. -
2009 Summer Nationals Local For those that are possibly still looking at accommodations, we just booked at 2 bedroom suite at Hyatt Summerfield Suites. They have a on-line special through their web-site. If you pre-pay they are offering an additional 30% discount. You must book by 6/12. This does include a full breakfast each day and the suites also have a full kitchen.
Fencer's Mom Tell me who are you?

Don't follow the link. Go to the usfa website, under nationals, under check-in times. Then you can get the whole schedule. -

If you want to go anywhere besides the Gaylord, you'll need to rent a car or take a taxi. Or hit up a local. That's it, I'm done with the discussion forums on F.net. It's had its uses, but the ideologues, ranters, and "experts" have drowned too many of the conversations. I'm changing my password to something random and never logging in again. Similar Threads -
