Why? The referees are unpaid, and will thus have no money to spend on booze. Unless they are being given vouchers for that as well as dinners now.

I've heard Grapevine is a great walking town, with plenty of options for those who are bored of what the Gaylord offers.
You are both advised to stock up on Red Bull, so that you can fly from place to place, per the advertisements.

Just avoid the Red Bull Cola. I hear that it may contain cocaine!

Only in Texas could there be trucking companies/BBQ places. And could someone please explain the fascination with BBQ anyway???

    It's good?

Plus it's only available in its authentic form in certain regions of the country?

Er---wouldn't that only be true if the cooks who excelled at it were not permitted to relocate, actually?

In the greater LA area there is a trucking company that rents out space to various comic, ccg, collectibles on the weekend.

I vaguely recall that during Kennedy - Hoffa questioning there was a connection between a trucking company and a bordello in Indiana being run by an illegal immigrant - so trucking co. & BBQ connection is almost logical.

In Seattle (ok, Bellevue really) Dixie's bbq was an auto repair place that sold a little bbq on the side. Gradually the bbq took over, and there's no auto repair there any more, only gigantically hot bbq.

This is exactly the reason the I have a shirt that says, "It's a Texas thing; Ya'll Wouldn't Understand.

Texas & Texans are not like any place else in the US, and no matter how much you try to explain it, it's something you just have to see.

    Amen. I love Texas.

And just so all of you non-Texans know this in advance: not everyone wears a cowboy hat, or owns horses.

Vermont, Independent Republic, 1777-1791. Our Constitution supposedly allows us to secede also. And 40 years before anyone even thought of Texas.

You're completely right. When was the last time Vermont didn't consider themselves part of the union?

Texas had to wait to join the union until they could the balance of, at that time, salve and free states to balance. The time and the independence set the attitude for Texas, we could and did make it without the US.

And to this day at the start of every Texas legislative lesson it's a tradition one of the freshmen members of the house puts forth a motion for Texas to secede and in the Senate a senior members does the same.

Texas is just different and Texans take it very seriously.

Yeah, because there is something in the air or water in Texas that makes you guys inherently "different" from the rest of the US, or the world for that matter

For some Vermonters, continuously since 1791. There is an active secessionist movement today.

Texans are just still mad that they were unsuccessful in their bid to exercise their option.
