OK. Then within a reasonably priced cab ride. Something with a good selection on draft.

Again, you're going to strike out on that, I think. I'll do some checking around, and have some recommendations for good bars, with a good draft selection. There are a couple of places on Main Street in Grapevine. Can't vouch for their draft selection though.

Are there any crazy liquor laws?

Oso97, could you please make us aware of any State or Local drinking laws that may affect our normal behavior?

This is not one of those "dry counties" like Amarillo, where you have to join a "sham" club in order to get a cocktail, right?

And, at what hours (days) will we be tossed out into the street from our perches at the bar?

    Thanks for your assistance.

Well there's a nightclub at the Gaylord, open until 2:00AM but it is closed on Sunday and Monday.

    Glass Cactus Nightclub

When the Texas sun sets, the Glass Cactus Nightclub comes alive with nightly live entertainment and dancing, as well as creative cocktails and club cuisine.

Aside from the 39,000 square feet of indoor floor space and four bars, the $16 million venue also offers 13,000 square feet of outdoor deck space on two floors overlooking Lake Grapevine.

The state-of-the-art sound stage showcases top-named national talent, along with the best local and regional touring acts... featuring everything from country to rock ‘n’ roll to blues.

Open Tuesday through Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m., Glass Cactus Nightclub welcomes overnight guests staying at the resort, as well as locals.

Glass Cactus Nightclub is located on the Gaylord Texan grounds but apart from the main hotel building. Parking is available in the new multi-level, 17,000-space parking garage, or hotel guests can take a trolley from the main entrance of the resort.

A VIP entrance to the nightclub is available, along with an upscale and secluded spot for private parties.

For more information, please call (817) 778-2800.

Attire: Casual attire — no flip flops, no torn attire or t-shirts with graphic slogans.
Reservations: Reservations accepted, call (817) 778-1000
Parking: Self-parking in hotel garage is free with validation.

The bid packets for NACs and Nationals obviously need to be revised.

2007 NAC, we ordered from this old, "famous" BBQ place near the convention center, the name of which currently escapes me. They delivered a huge pile of magnificent brisket to the Adam's Mark. Hopefully someone can remind me of the name so I can call and see if they deliver to Grapevine (during spans of "back-to-back-to-back" events, for us "delivery" is more popular than going out, I am afraid).

How often will you be making use of said kitchen and how far away are these Summerfield Suites?

Grapevine is a "mostly wet" locality. Restaurants and bars may serve beer, wine and liquor without restriction, until 2am. Beer and wine may be purchased at grocery stores. However, there are no liquor stores in town, and it may be difficult to purchase hard liquor for individual consumption outside of a bar/restaurant. Nearest liquor store is going to be in Dallas.

Would you be willing to begin a list of BBQ options available without passing judgement as to relative quality?

We will utilize the kitchens fairly frequently, maybe not to cook full meals but considering we are there for 9 days it will certainly be an option. Irving is about 7-9 miles away. We always rent a car anyway. With this deal we were able to save 700.00 over our initial reservation.

    Yes, pretty please oso97?

We don't want to start a religious war, but can you give us a sense of the major religions?

So far based on my research I've turned up the following (there are many more):

    Railhead
    Wilson's
    Up In Smoke
    Bartley's
    Angelo's

I am not limiting them to Grapevine, as I am willing to travel for good Q.

    Thanks,

And don't forget to indicate which are within walking distance.

I've heard Grapevine is a great walking town, with plenty of options for those who are bored of what the Gaylord offers.

A fair bit over half an hour ago I got into a shared ride shuttle thinking to myself, "perhaps I'll make early check-in for the WC". Now , as I sit circling the airport yet another time, hoping the next passenger will be important enough that the driver will decide to take us all to our downtown destinations, and listening to the shortband radio blaring forth increasing evidence that dispatch is simply incompetent I have one thought:

Just use the Super Shuttle. Sometimes tried and true is just better.

    Maybe I'll make weapons control.

Hi, I am the guy that built the local site. i have a bit more info for everyone, some of its been recently posted on the site and some I will not get to until after the world cup but here it is in a nut shell.
I believe the city of grapevine runs a shuttle from the Gaylord to downtown grapevine for getting to the restaurants and bars. I am checking on the details.
For bars, there are a few in downtown grapevine, and everywhere servers wine. You can even make your own wine at some of the places.
For BBQ the best place I know is North Main BBQ, its far from grapevine and only open on Friday and Saturday (because its a trucking company the rest of the week apparently) but it is by far the best. I'll see if I can dig up some more recommendations.

On the tech side, I have set up a North Texas Fencing facebook page for the event, and also I have set up a twitter feed. I am going to work with the bout committee to try and post the top 8 in each event real time. The info is on the home page of the site I put up for anyone that wants to follow us.
