| Gift ideas for a female H.S. graduate Hi fencers.....need a little help here....
Just got invited to a graduation party for a young lady from our club. She is going on to college. Not having daughters, I'm at a loss as to what is a good gift for a young lady. I realize money/gift cards are always an option. But any other ideas or maybe a little something that can be given in addition to $$$$$. Any ideas appreciated....
Thank you kindly,
Karinka

| I don't know where she's going or what she's majoring in, but chances are she'll need to write papers so I'd say the MLA handbook is pretty good for anybody. Or a toiletry caddy.

Salute! | If she's going to college what she probably really wants is a beer punch card.

| I just graduated from college, and my parents have been asking me what I want for a graduation gift. I had been planning to ask for a new laptop to replace the one I've had since I graduated high school, but as fate would have it, I fried that one last fall and had to buy a new one myself. So I'm out of ideas. (I already have a car. ) |

| A gift card from U-Haul? I'm sure her parents and younger siblings would appreciate it. |

| How much do you want to spend?
Most expensive: Car
Slightly less expensive: Tab at the beer store
A little cheaper: Parking pass
Honestly, a good laptop if she doesn't have one would be invaluable. Doesn't have to be top-of-the-line. Just as long is it's portable (i.e not a 17" monster like mine), has an optical drive, a big hard drive, and wireless internet.
Or a good backpack (I recommend anything by Kelty).
If she plans to stay on campus (dorms, ugh. Glad I didn't have to do that) then the small household things that everyone needs would be handy. As a student, chances are she will have other things to spend her money on. Like the aforementioned beer.
As for me, I just graduated University. Finally. (B.Sc. M.E.)
For a grad gift, my mom got me a nice frame for my diploma.
There was nothing else I wanted. I'm now done my schooling, and searching for a real job.
High School Graduation, with the promise of post-secondary ahead, deserves a little more pomp than a mere frame.

| A useful gift Less expensive than a laptop but incredibly useful gifts include a USB hard drive. This allows you to BACKUP the paper you've written and it also allows you to work on someone else's laptop if you have a problem.
Jump drives also work but you can get more data on a hard drive and hard drives are not subject to as many restrictions as jump drives.
[Jump drives are not allowed where I work due to security constraints.] |

| Depending on how well you know this person, which it doesn't sound like you know her too well, I doubt you're going to be buying her a laptop, besides I'm sure she's received one already from closer family anyhow.
Based on her style and anything you may know about it, I would get her anything that you can think of that she may need for her dorm. Depending on how much you are looking to spend, you can get her anything from a microwave, to one of those teapots that are plastic and plug in to heat up the water, to bedsheets, a lamp, paintings or posters involving something she likes so she feels more at home, a bathroom caddy with nice shampoos and soaps and flip flops for her to carry between her dorm and the showers, a terry bathrobe to wear between the forementioned, a little TV w/: a built in DVD player, etc.
If you just think of "if I was going to college, what is something cool I'd like to have for my dorm" there's a billion little gift ideas right there. |
