    Fencing Score Keeper for iPhone

I am currently working on a program that keeps score for you. It has the score keeper, timer, cards and other things. I also has a pool sheet so you can run a pool from your iPhone(or iPod touch). I am practically done with the program but I wanted to know what features everybody wanted to see in this app.

    **UPDATE**
The app is now on the app store. You can access it with this link.

A large clock and preferably set up to work in panoramic view. I would stay away from the multiple start and stop buttons for the clock center bottom is fine for either view. a period countrt that goes to 9 is a plus. If your going to make the pool trackable make sure you use the standard bout order, and include a swap button for lefty righty
Go to the well until the well is dry. When the well is dry find a new well.

Yep, All of those things I have included except the period counter. I posted a picture of what the counter looks like. Let me know what you think. Also the view is kinda crowded so where would be a good place to put the period counter.

That is something that I completely forgot about. The only problem is that I have an iPod touch and I have no way of physically being able to be sure that it works. On a related note, when there is 10 seconds the screen flashes which catches your attention. So that is a start but I am still going to try to get it to vibrate.

vibrate it. anything else won't quite cut it. refs attention will be on a bout, and ambient noise is typically high. needs to be a tactile response.

Vibration for starting and stopping time couldn't hurt. Not starting / not stopping the time correctly is my biggest malfunction with the current iPhone referee app.

Well I just looked up the code to do that and the code is relatively simple so I am going to add it. Like I said before I have no idea if it works. If I have like one misplace comma or something else it won't work.

misplace a comma and your code won't work. just release it and see what feedback you get.

Hmmmm....I like the idea but I have one question. If you have something that vibrates after each point or hault, like in a foil bout between two people with no point control. That might drive the ref insane. I mean it beeps and everything but should it vibrate each time. So as of now I wont add it but feel free to try and argue my point

I probably will have to do that. I just feel bad for saying that it will vibrate and then doesn't. It looks like I dont have any other choices

Or, you could have someone with an iPhone test it for you.

I curious to see what you will do differently from my ScoreCounter app for keeping score and time on an iPhone.

I do still need to get the updated version onto the app store.

Looking at it I would remove the 3 and 1 buttons and just use + and - to control time. You only have a single penalty, how do you differentiate between fencers, also what about a coin toss? The period counter can go between the score but below it in a smaller font it need not be that big.
I would also put the record button above the start stop and lower it.
Where will the pool sheet be shown?

Personally I don't know anyone off the top of my head that I could take their iPhone for a day or have them over at my house. I know like 6 people with iPod touches but oh well. In terms of things I would do differently, basically it is a pool sheet. I have a full 4 to 8 person pool that you can run.

Ok, I'll try that and see how it works, im gonna have to do it 2moro b/c I wanna go to sleep. Basically the penalty thing works where you press that button and you go into another view where you have a tabbar with 4 buttons. They say back, yellow, red and black. You press the color and the screen turns that color. I don't have it where you mark one fencer specifically for a penalty. The coin toss is something I feel that I shouldn't do. I don't feel like it would be taken as a real toss. I say just have a coin on you then you won't get into an argument over the legitimacy of the coin flip. Now I will briefly explain how the pool works. Basically you create a pool and you have a blank pool sheet. Below it shows you who is on deck and who is fencing now. Right below who is fencing now is a button that says Fence! and when you press it you go into the scoring mode. At the top where the double arrows you press there and you will be asked if you want to switch sides for left handed people. Now the record button is for when the bout is finished and you press it and it records it into the pool sheet and adds to the individual fencer's touches sent, received, victories etc. Below there is also a back button so you can go back to the pool sheet without recording the score. Also, once the bout is finished you have the option to edit the score if you choose. Now the screen shot above was the score keeper when you are doing a pool. I also have a seperate mode where you have the score keeper without the pool sheet . It also replaces the record button with a reset button.....wow.....that was a long post.......

I think I just have to say: Keep up the good work! This sounds like it could be a real lifesaver!

Can you program it to call touches? I am often confused by the rapid blade movements, and getting a second opinion would be preferable to faking confidence and calling it randomly.
Have: Leon Paul Blades Size 9.5 used, good condition, 2 RH L Uhlmann Visconti, 1 RH M Uhlmann Visconti, 1 RH M Uhlmann clone Visconti
Want: FWF Epee Points/Barrels, other random epee crap. Trade?

I would have NO problem with it vibrating every time I start and stop time. My current clock does that, and I LOVE it because of it.
    "Sir, didn't I parry"
"You didn't take advantage of his blade enough, so no."

(I guess i should have romanced it a bit more..."

The reason that I don't have it is because I didn't think that people would like that. I was talking to people at my club and the posts here and noone really has anything against it. So it looks like I am going to add it. If I get alot of complaints about it, I'll just make it an option in the settings to turn it on or off.

Vibrate is fine if you cant figure out how to raise it up to your ear and listen

I normally use mine only at local and some regional events. its never so load that i cant hear it . At NACS the boxes have score and time.

You should have a way to indicate penalties for each fencer, that has to be recorded or it can be a point to appeal. Granted Iv never try and weasle out of a touch but Ive neever reffed someone as sneaky as catwood
