Question for FIE refs with regards to lame.

I'll preface this by saying there is no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid people. Now having established my credentials...

I've recently re-watched some of the men's foil from last Olympics as well as some video's I have of WC events. One this I've noticed is that a lot of fencers (kleibrink, Baldidni, to name a couple) do not close the collar of their lame and the referees do not enforce this.

I hatw the rasied collar on my lame, It just irritates me and I'm looking for any excuse to leave it open. I was wondering if anyone can confirm if this is actually the case.? Thanks in advance.

Somebody else might say this better, but I think this is the information you're looking for:

"Your shower shoes have fungus on them. You'll never make it to the bigs with fungus on your shower shoes. Think classy, you'll be classy. If you win 20 in the show, you can let the fungus grow back and the press'll think you're colorful. Until you win 20 in the show, however, it means you are a slob." - Crash Davis, "Bull Durham"

Go to the well until the well is dry. When the well is dry find a new well.
