What exactly is a sweeping parry?

I'm just curious, the term is thrown around a lot but I'm not sure I know what it is. Could someone explain it to me?

I'd like to know if I'm doing it without realizing it.

Sweeping parries are parries that don't stop in the line of the parry. In another thread, Craig mentioned a sweeping parry 7. In this case the attack in 7 is parried and the defender's blade continues through the 7 line and back into the high line (usually riposting in 6 or to shoulder).

    Hope that helps

I don't know what it is for other weapons, but in sabre... It's sometimes referred to as a flying parry.

From four, perry six, attack to five. Works effectively if the attack is to the head. Unfortunately, your direction of final attack is highly predictable. But has the advantage of being one continuous movement of parry-riposte.
Don't take life so seriously... You'll never live through it.

I recall a few years back in an epee class, our instructor made reference to a "flying parry," but he was describing a parry-riposte executed virtually in stesso tempo.
